Does an addict mean the. Mean things they say when mad/need drugs?

My friend was mad at me because I wouldn’t borrow them money… I knew what it was probably going to go to.. And so he started calling me ugly, fat a bitch and saying no one would ever want me… And he’s done things like that before when mad cuz I wouldn’t help him out, So I had brought it up to him one night and told him how it made me feel.. he said I was beAutiful and that he didn’t mean it, that he just says things when he’s mad.. he sounded sad/sincere about it but At this point it’s hard for me to believe what’s true and what’s not with him..

I dont care if he's an addict, he shouldn't say those things to you and you should distance yourself from him.

I haven’t spoken to him in 2 weeks.. but it’s hard cuz I care about him and worry about him all the time.

I’m an addict and I wouldn’t be mean to someone I cared about because of it, I think addiction exacerbates negative qualities of the person

All it means is that he cares about his addiction more than his consideration for those around him
