Are daughter /son in laws ever truly your family?

My experience says it doesn't. No matter how many years a daughter in law knew your grandma, they will never feel as sad as you upon her death. In tense family conflicts , they are always the mediators between the real family members fighting. If you won't talk to your siblings, you send your wife to convey messages back and forth. They also tend to be the least emotionally involved in intimate family affairs. During marital conflicts or divorce, family will usually always stay on the side of their biological son or daughter rather than the son or daughter in law.

They may be called sons or daughters in laws upon marriage but are they really anything close to our real children?

I respect your experience. And, sure, you can talk about "blood" family and all that. But I agree with @Agape93. My in laws have treated me like family and consider me family way more than my parents or my siblings. So, the answer to your question is "yes". But, it'll be different for every set of in laws.

There is a reason they are called inlaws and not just daughter or son because they are not meant to be close to that relationship of your kids

In laws don't have the decades of history that the family members have. They can still be loved like family, but there is truth to the saying, "Blood is thicker than water."

you can treat someone as your family but it does not mean they are your family. there's a huge difference.

I agree, it's also not what I said. If I have a friend that I love and see as family, they are now my family member. That's all there is to it, how you see it.

truth is, friends who act like family are very rare and even if you do find one, never rely on them. because they are never guaranteed to stay. friendships are temporary. almost all friendships eventually come to an end at some point.

actually people in new york city are ruder than folks in california. nyc is ranked as one of the least friendly cities in the world. life here is hard, expensive, stressful, too many people in your way, too much competition. I will be gone in a matter of a few more years

I like the sun in the south. Nothing better than some southern hospitality. Im also Asian so I don't know if i will be accepted in many of these places im headed to. nyc is diverse but not so much in other small towns

Florida is gorgeous. CA is also gorgeous But I will live anywhere there is good sun, and nice friendly people. People are so nice in vermont but there is just no sun there.

I'm willing to bet people in maine are a lot better too. I've heard there's great tasty healthy seafood there too. Here in NYC, all our food is fast food/ pizza/ junk food/ 7eleven's ham sandwiches, poorly made salads, or its super high end Michelin star restaurant.

Yeap and we get some good sunlight near the coasts, but we also get a lot of rain and some pretty fierce cold snaps
