Hello I’m 25(f) and I currently live with family & pay $500 in rent to my mom. My mom had a really rough life and believe nothing is handed to anyone which is super valid. The thing is, we fight a lot and she’s always coming at me about cleaning dishes even if I don’t use them because I “ need to contribute to the house hold” but I thought my rent was contributing? A bit about me, I’m full time in school and have 2 years left at university. I work part time too which is of course how I pay rent. So basically for years my mom has called me a “b**ch”, “cunt”, “dumb” , or even “she can’t trust me”. Yesterday we had a big argument where she said I’m the source of her unhappiness. She knows I have no where to go because rent is so high everywhere but I’m highly considering living in my car. ( I road-trip every year where I spend 3 weeks in my car so I know how it works). I just don’t see a point in paying $500 to have a room where half the plugs don’t work just to be called names. Any advice? I’m really considering living in my car
I hear of people living in their car, a guy in my area is over 60 living in his car. he doesn't like it, hurting his back, but can't find a place he can afford. never tried it. sounds uncomfortable.
I applaud you for taking initiative and responsibility.
Your mom is right about dishes, but that is a communications issue. You've taken on a lot with school and work, but I used to do the same and I still did the dishes and shopping, and laundry. The emotional drain is another matter, that needs resolved else will tear you down and impact everything.
Kinda cold in a car at times, seat isn't flat, noisy... where can you park without hassle and noise? but if you save $500 month that can buy you a place eventually. This really is a time you need good family, security, friends in life.
don't you dare have a kid right now... no males until you get this stuff fixed and get stable. once out of college, you have job, with $, you have options.

You can't live in a car, but you really should look into a roommate at your uni, a group of 2 or 3 other girls to share a place with. Your 500, plus 500 from each of them can get you a place.
This is way fancier than what you need, so I'd find one for $300 per month.

You're mom is an ass, if you pay 500 in rent already and can still afford a car, just rent out an apartment.
do you have any other relatives or friends you could live with? have you tried looking on zillow for an apartment have you tried asking around for a roommate?
