Do you expect to inherit anything?

Question

My father died early without a will, and his estate was split between my sister and I. She got an extra $45,000 for being 17.5 when he died, because minors here automatically get that amount first out of everything in probate. Then, we split whatever is left after that.

I took my portion and bought his house from the estate. Part of that went to my sister as well. So, I think she ended up with about $80k cash, and I walked away with the house. I believe about $27k that I put down for the deposit was my total inheritance. The house wasn't worth much after paying off the mortgage, and it needed repairs.

Later, my dad's parents died and didn't leave me anything. So, I guess the 3k loan my grandmother forgave before she died counts. If I'd known, I wouldn't have paid back the other 2k the month before, and it would have been 5k. It's a bit annoying because my grandparents kept promising an inheritance and left nothing to me and everything to my uncle. They could have just never made empty promises... I wouldn't have expected anything if they didn't bring it up multiple times. Just feels like lies and betrayal.

My great grandfather left my brother and I $50k in elementary school, but my uncle stole it and spent it since he was in charge of the estate.

I don't expect anyone else to leave anything. Maybe a rug I requested from my in-laws and family pictures from my Nana. If they do then great surprise, if not then no biggie. So, I suppose about $30k total that I actually got.

My mom died when I was 23. She had about $10K in cash and owned 4 properties in ID and MT that were not fully paid for, and not very valuable. In the end, the $10K cash was pretty much my inheritance (I was splitting with 4 of my siblings on that side of my family).

My father is still alive, but he's not a likely source of inheritance resources. He is an alcoholic who took his own inheritance of around $100K and moved to Costa Rica with it. I am assuming he is squandering it, and should have next to nothing or probably debt when he dies.

My mother's only sister and her spouse are well off, and I was told "you made the will". They are not the types to say something like that frivolously, so I assume something, but have no dollar amount to put on that. I don't place any expectation, or count on it as part of my retirement strategy. Though I will say even one of their properties would be a life changing boost to my resources.

If anything, I'm likely to have to support them. They are in their mid 70s, but people in my family live long lives, and they don't have a lot of savings.

Depends on how you calculate the value of it. I bought my mom an annuity that transfers to me afterwards. I'll also get her pension for the rest of my life. A few small brokerage accounts and 401k/IRAs.

I'm now zero , because both my parents are dead , my brother is a multi millionaire , but he has children and grand children , so I am no hope there , no hope with my sisters ( all are much older than I am ) , barring someone I can't think of ( highly unlikely ) ..

When I go , and hopefully thats in a very long time , I'd be hopeful that my daughters would get around 2.5 mill Aud$ each , I can't give it to them early , because I need the capital to produce the returns to keep me going..

What I'm focused on for them is housing as its just ridiculously expensive in Australia , I think its highly unlikely that my eldest would want to return to Australia , so in Euros that will not go that far , but my youngest would at least have a half decent house with no mortgage.

But , I'd love another windfall along the way , here's hoping that I've done some good somewhere.

The stories that I hear about people inheriting, or not inheriting, never cease to amaze me. It is somewhat common for elderly parents or grandparents to say that they will leave and adult child or other relative some inheritance, but whether or not they actually get around to putting it in their will is another story. A lady who I know who is 78, her husband was ill for a long time and passed on. He told his niece that she wasn't in the will, but if she ever needed money, to call his widowed wife after he passes. So many years later, the niece called and asked her for $450,000 because "she and her husband wanted to buy a better house"... Geeschhh who would call someone and ask for $450,000... That is crazy!

As far as I am aware, I'm supposed to inherit family land (but it's in another country, and way too complicated to deal with especially no longer being a citizen there, so, I'll never see it or use it unless I move), on the other end, there is also family land here in the US, but again, too far away, and I'm not interested in paying taxes on land I will literally never use. I believe there is some insurance money, maybe, I've never asked about money. I've just told my mom that the only thing I really want is my aunt's China (who passed and gave it to my mom). She knows I love it very much, and so it's the only thing I said to put me down for if anything when they were filing their will and asking me about stuff.

I already did. I technically inherited my paternal grandfather's house when I was four, but my dad had a life trust on it so I did not officially take possession of that, which is the house I live in, till my dad passed when I was 19. I inherited my maternal grandparents' house from my mom after she passed when I was 16, but my dad held it in trust till I turned 18. And when my dad passed I inherited everything he owned, which was everything else.

I am the only child of two only children, so I was the sole heir of two families.

Honestly I have no idea. My parents are divorced and I haven't spoken my father since 2 years ago. Which was my own choice to cut contact with due to toxic behaviour from both him & my familly, forcing me to speak/meetup with him while I just wanted peace of mind and ace my highschool exams. So I expect to inherit nothing besides the legal child-part because I'm his biological son.

From my mother I also have no idea. She always talks about making sure we have no problems with the taxes-organisation when she would die unexpectedly. But she also shows us being no priority to her when her boyfriend is in the picture, than it looks like we are nothing to her. So I wouldn't surprise me if she kicked us out of her will and put her boyfriend in it.

Already Got Everything Coming Top me and a House That Was Signed by my Sister and Myself By My Folk's Lawyer So Medicaid would Never Get It If They would Ever land In a Nursing Home. When my father died, he left everything to my mother. When she died, I was the Executor of her Will. She didn't have much. Her estate, after expenses, was divided up in fairly equal shares between her two children and six grandchildren. I received about $1000.

Sort of a living inheritance. After my
Mom passed my Dad was depressed. Being an only child, he came to live with us, selling his house and gifting $500k of the proceeds towards a new larger house we’re all in now, mortgage-free. There’s also probably $50-100k in other assets, including Mom’s jewelry, art, coins, and vintage furniture. I expect my spouse will inherit something in a similar region (~$500k) when her parents pass.

It will be a lot of farming land and some real estate. Unfortunately my mother got me with 19 and my father was 21 when I was born. It means they won't die soon and I will be around 60, my brother 50 when they embark the boat over the Styx.

My mother never saved, only her jewellery (most of which I gave her) is worth about £200

My father has a pension but I don't expect him to have anything left, just his st Christopher necklace and a smattering of old silver coins... all I gave/sold him

Haven't gotten anything yet as both my parents are still alive, but there's a chance I may end up getting enough to maybe buy a house. We'll see.
