My boyfriend's friends seem to really like me but they keep teasing him in my presence... why?

I've hung out with them a couple times, including once when my boyfriend wasn't even there. A friend of his in particular keeps teasing my boyfriend by mentioning embarrassing stuff about him when I'm there (ex: failure at seducing a random chick a while ago, making fun of his looks and flirting abilities). Why is that? Shouldn't they all be "rooting" for him? Isn't that against "bro code" or what not?

Forgot to mention that he's known been friends with them for 10 years or so - school buddies.

Guys make fun of each other. A lot. Guys bond differently from how girls do.

To my experience, not only do guys respond well to the kind of flirting that involves some teasing, but it also makes points with their friends when you can keep up with the fun and games.

If I were in your situation, either I'd join in, but compliment my boyfriend:

"Yeah, I can see how you'd say it's a big nose, but I like it."

or I'd turn it around on the friends:

"You're saying HE is bad at flirting? I don't see a pretty girl sitting next to you!"

That's mild, in my opinion, because of how I tend to interact with guys I know. Go by what you know of your boyfriend, his friends, and their sense of humor.

Because he likes you. He wants to show you that he is better than your boyfriend. He is implicitly sending you signals "Pick me! I'm better than him! He's a loser compared to me!". He is quite immature or incredibly possessive which means he likes to have other people's belongings. Next time he belittles your boyfriend in front of you, say something like "He is the best guy ever" , his friend will literally feel angry and jealous. ;)
