The whole point of flirting is supposedly to show interest without explicitly saying you're interested (I could be wrong but I think this is the definition). And today with most younger people or people my age have difficulty differentiating between actual flirting and just being nice. So why flirt when you can just ask someone out, it would save a lot of confusing? And if the person is not interested then you're going to get rejected anyway.
TL;DR Whats the point of flirting since people can't tell the difference between flirting and non flirting?

Flirting is all a game — never put all of your chips out, or take a risk and go all in. Study the person, pay attention to their every word, action, and nudges. But never flirt in hopes of getting a guy, flirt to have fun. And if they don't reciprocate, then boohoo move on.
I agree with you, I would give up if I was unable to sense any attraction.
