Have you ever cooked over a fire?

I ate hundreds of fire roasted sausage on hunt sessions of my father. It's not so easy as seems to be to make good fire roasted sausage.
Firstly, choice of sausage with high fat amount is important.
Than some wood sorts cover sausages with soot, some wood sorts have better smoke aroma than others... etc (meat smoking is a science for itself)
Thirdly. The mustard and bread is the secret of every good fire roasted sausages. It can't be some french fee fee baguette and Dijon mustard but dark mustard seed stuff and a piece of freshly baked rye bread.
Yes, quite a few times when camping.
Roasting hot dogs over an open fire is as easy as roasting marshmallows. My family did that when I was a kid. I later did it while camping with friends.
When backpacking, a couple friends and I would even catch trout, impale them on sticks and set them on embers, turning them often for a few minutes.
But my wife and I went on group camp outs quite a few times. Sometimes we made some really good stuff.
Wrap a potato and some ears on corn in tin foil and bury them in the glowing embers. And over the same embers, place a grate and cook T-bone steaks in a cast iron frying pan.
We even use one of those flat grill basket things and cook shrimp skewers or salmon fillets.
Oh hell yeah, I've cooked over a fire before! 🔥👨🍳🍳🍗🍖🥩🔥 There's just something primal and sexy about building a raging inferno and cooking your food over that delicious heat. 😍🔥 Whether it's a juicy steak, a sizzling burger, or even some fresh caught fish, cooking over an open flame is the ultimate way to get in touch with your inner caveman. 🦍🍖🔥 And let's be real, there's nothing hotter than seeing a man (or woman) expertly handling their meat over that roaring fire. 🔥👀🥩🔥 So if you haven't tried cooking over a fire yet, what the hell are you waiting for? Get out there and let your primal instincts take over! 🔥👨🍳🥩🍖🍳🔥
Many times. I used to be part of the Girl Guides organization and camped a lot. My first job was at an overnight summer camp as well. Cooking over a fire was a regular occurrence.

When I was homeless, I cooked over a fire all the time. You can get away with it because you're invisible to everyone. Hot dogs and beans, chicken, fish, and even some types of vegetables go good over a fire if you can keep them at a good position near the flame, not too close, but close enough. Food tastes so much better than in a microwave or on a stove I think.
Nothing like succulent udders roasting slowly over an open flame! That sizzling sound that rises up towards the sky is the sound of mammary glands on fire. Alluring aromas of sizzling puppies drifting through the air, paired with the subtle smoky scent o' nunga nungas.
Let's not forget those large honkers roasting on the grill! The sight of giant mammary glands gently browning on the outside makes your mouth water. As the juices from the searing tit and titties drip down onto the hot coals below, sending off tantalizing wisps of smoke, it's like nothing else. The combination of succulent and smokey flavors waft through the summer breeze, making one feel as carefree as a teenage girl with ripe melons.
Many... many times. I have a brick fireplace system in my backyard with rack grates that allows me to cook things over open flame at different levels. I also have cast irons and dutch oven cooking items that I can insert directly into the flames. I've made stews, pastas, rice dishes, etc.
I was a Boy Scout long ago, and, yes, we had to dig fire pits and make spits to cook food over a fire. We also had to use alternative means to start the fire - no matches or lighters (though we carried those for emergencies) - so we had to use flints and tinder. We could also "cook" in our canteen cups and we had cast iron frying pan and an enameled Dutch oven.
Only when as a teen I was with the scouts. Otherwise it's barbecue. When I was young, in my family people often cooked on a plain stove... But I've never seen anyone baking saucages as shown in your picture, which reminds me more of the Far West than the Neanderthal ;0)
Damn, that rake idea is ingenious in a ridiculous kind of way. lol Fun fact: you can also use a shovel for cookin' too...
https://www.youtube.com/embed/wWyov32s-7EBut yes, I have cooked on a proper fire on the ground with wood that I axed myself. Many times while camping. And yes, I have thrown potatoes and corn in there for good measure!
First of all , the hot dog rake, is the best Idea I have seen in a while. I have been cooking on open fire since I was 13 years old. The key to open fire cooking can be explained by the cooking of a marshmellow. Keep it out of of the flames cook over coals and be attentive. You have to keep moving your food or you will dry it out.
Yeah, not in a long time though. It seems like as I'm getting older there's far less motivation to sleep on a cot in a tent and cook a meal in a cast iron over the fire lol
I spent a couple months eatting nothing but food cooked over campfires while travelling cross country and staying in parks to sleep in. Though the diet for that was mostly hot dogs and canned goods. Like I don't even want to go hunting without modern amenities now.
Yep. Barbecue. Sausages. Bread. Marshmallows. Skewered vegetables. Never wasn't delicious. And the lingering smell of grilled food after.
I'd do it like every day if I could.
My family always boiled a billy of tea on a fire. Does that count?
Cooked in a old tractor tire (the rim) at home, safer.
Sure, when I was a kid we had cookouts on the beach all the time.
do it every summer and every time we go out ice fishing in the winter.
I did during a cottage trip with my dad's friends and their daughter when I was in my early 20s. I think it was marshmallows and some other stuff.
Yes, whenever we go camping we bring our iron cookware and cook our food and Brew our coffee over the fire.
i have yet to try cooking over a fire, but it's definitely on my bucket list
It's been a while, but, oh yeah!
The last one was fresh-caught river sunfish, and home-fried 'taters.
Once and I ruined the food. Now my uncle is the master at this.
No I fired after the cook, ate a pizza and made a fire inside the box
Yes. Marshmallows when I was young while camping.
