Girls, I gave her space and time and she came back to me... is the saying true?

There's this girl i'm deeply in love with. she doesn't love me back, and after things got too weird between us, I decided to give her space & time. I didn't talk to her for 6 weeks and I tried to stay away from her - to the point of leaving parties where she was at so she won't feel uncomfortable.
Suddenly she came back to me saying she never wanted me to do that ever again , she indirectly said that she cared a lot for me and she wanted things to be okay between us, yet I know she hasn't friendzoned me because she told me she didn't see me as a friend but she thinks i should stop thinking about what we are or the relationship between us.
It made me think of the saying "if you love her , let her go if she comes back, she's yours forever" . could that saying be true in this case?

No she doesn't want to lose you, you sound super important to her but that doesn't mean she wants to date you or be sexually intimate with you. It sucks that you guys were so close, she obviously thought she hit the jackpot friend wise while you were trying to turn it into more. Now she is probably just trying desperately to hold on to you but if you guys went out it, would probably be disastrously because she's still probably not interested. Everyone is going to lose. You can't force love... if you can't except that and be her friend then you should walk away. It'll suck for both of yous for awhile but hopefully you'll both beable to move on. This is just my opinion, I obviously do not know her.

Never assume she's "yours forever" unless she explicitly states she wants to be in a relationship with you. But it's a good sign.
