+1 yNo, transgender women are not real women. Being male or female is not based on what a person feels or identifies as, but rather strict biological criteria. Being male or female is determined by a person's role of reproduction, which is, in turn, determined by a person's sex chromosomes. If a person has 46, XX chromosomes with the biological role of producing egg cells and carrying a fetus, that person is female. If a person has 46, XY chromosomes with the biological role of producing sperm cells and fertilizing egg cells, that person is male. The genitals, the penis and vagina, which are also determined by sex chromosomes in the womb, ensure that these reproduction roles are carried out, meaning that genitals are basic indicators of a person's sex. Simply identifying as the opposite sex and/or undergoing hormone treatment and surgery to resemble the opposite sex doesn't alter the sex chromosomes or biological roles. At best, such treatment can stop the biological roles from functioning correctly, but not actually completely change them. Thus, regardless of how convincing they might look, transgender women are still men and transgender men are still women. Believe me when I say that this answer isn't coming from a place of hate, but rather a place of science. You can't argue with science.

@gaygod_19 Intersex people are deviants. They are nothing more nor nothing less. If anything makes people different it is most likely the environment that we live in, with hormones in our food, and pollution/poison in our air and water. It's a wonder that anyone is normal anymore.

Genitals work as indicators of those reproductive roles because they carry out those roles. Having your genitals mangled or being unable to give birth is irrelevant to whether you're a man or woman. Being unable to carry out those roles doesn't affect your sex. What matters is the role the person would have had if he or she didn't suffer genital injuries or birth related issues, and also the sex chromosomes. As long as the chromosomes remain XY or XX, the person would always be male or female no matter what. I'm also not saying they aren't real based on my belief. It's basic science. Just because a person identifies as the opposite sex doesn't make him or her the opposite sex. Being a "real" man or woman goes far beyond identification.

basic science suggest that the things u just talked about is SEX (a person's biology), but the thing is, it is not always xx or xy, some people are intersex. Sex and gender are also two different things and have been brought up dozen of times, it doesn't hurt to do some research, google is free.

and since gender is a social construct (since our biology most of the time doesn't naturally influence the way we express ourselves, society does. History proves it) the matter of the fact a trans woman is a real woman or not, is not up for other people to debate. If she identifies as a woman then she's a woman, it takes zero cent for you to respect people and move on with your life instead of using "science" to prove it while your "science is actually talking about Sex, not gender.

Since most forms of intersex do not cause any disabilities, deformities or similar malfunctions, it's neither a birth defect nor a disorder. Therefore it is rather a DIFFERENCE instead of a defect. And it's important to include everybody, don't you think? Intersex people exist and should always be included. I never said XX and XY aren't real or common, i'm just pointing out there are more than just XX and XY.

tbh i don't think any amount of science and research is enough for your brain to evaluate. Science studies the function and developement of our BIOLOGY AKA OUR SEX. No science ever insist that sex and gender are the same. Being a woman is a personal label, not a biologically one. BIOLOGICALLY, you have a vagina and a uterus, and that's it. gender is a social construct, which could be proven based on history and science research. - +1 y

The only social construct aspect of that definition is the word "adult" because different cultures have different views on when a person becomes an adult. The term "female" is definitely biological. Thus, "woman" is not a personal label because it is based on being female. That means that people that aren't biologically women or female in general shouldn't say they are. If sex and gender are two completely different things, how do you define gender? The vast majority of the world knows that gender is a synonym for biological sex, but I'm curious to how you define it.

Well I think at the heart of it it's not. Lets say I have an old chevy and I want to build a Ferrari. So I get the body work and interior. Eventually it looks like the real thing. Drives nicely and all. But when I go to Ferrari to get it certified as genuine, it's rejected. If I sell it second hand, it's at 10% the value of other Ferraris because it's built by me.

+1 yIts complicated. I know some trans people and for real, I couldn't even tell they were trans. Some are able to "look the part" better. I also think if somebody has the cash to do so, then yah, I guess why not? But I think the average joe doesn't realistically have the cash or time for gender change surgery. So doing so anyways well, I think it's going a bit far. And anyways, I don't know how many surgeons do that stuff, but I prefer the medical personnel available focus on real emergencies and not optional stuff. Better for society to just be more chill about feminine and masculine stereotypes, then to have so many surgeries, because anyways, all they really chance is the look and maybe sex parts. They don't prep the mind for the challenges of being the opposite sex. And yah, biology has an affect, but it also depends on the person in the end.
I will add too, that all the trans people I knew happened to be at least middle/upper middle class. I don't think that's a coincidence either.20 Reply

I am friends with a couple of trans women - and have been more than friends with two of them. It's interesting skimming through the comments - and not surprising to see the mean ones. I've always scratched my head with why someone cares when it comes to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion etc... variety is what makes the world a beautiful place. Why hatred for those who are different... ignorance I guess.
To your question, not sure how you are defining "real girls". The trans girls I know would readily say they were assigned male at birth and they still have male genitalia so they are not real girls in that sense... and they would say that.
But they look, act, feel, behave, etc like a real woman - and I will say whenever I've been with them (whether the setting is sexual or not), I've always felt like I was with a woman.
Funny and sad how people quickly judge with no experience on a topic... wish people would stop hating on people over gender, sexual orientation, race, religion etc... the world would instantly become better and healthier and more fun...10 ReplyI've wondered the same thing and finally got the answer about a year ago. Depends on what parameters we use to consider what a real woman is. If we consider biology, they aren't. If we consider level of femininity showed through their social behavior, some trans could be more femenine than me, cis heterosexual girl. I have in mind Blair White, which I see as more stereotypically femenine than I am.

The same way there are some experiments that show that similarity, there are also experiments that show it's not that easy to tell if a brain is from a man or a woman. Then, another problem for me is that the experiments made to prove the similarities of trans women's brains and cis women's don't show what exact part of the brain is related to gender self identification and how to recognize it. I believe that if the research in that field was enaugh, people that claim or are thought to have gender dysphoria wouldn't go to a psychologist and rather go to a neurologist to get a brain scan and see if they actually show a more reliable signal of dysphoria. That isn't happening yet, which causes some people with real dysphoria to not be diagnosed as fast as they should or people that don't actually have dysphoria to be misdiagnosed.

I know this is a highly sensitive subject. in my opinion... no. It might suck but what you are born, that is what you are. The beauty of the world nowadays is, you no longer have to live that way all your life. If you want to live as a woman, you can. If you want to be a guy, more power to you. You can even go through the surgery and get all the parts so that you look like whatever you want to be. But, you were not born that way, so at your core, you will never be that. However, what does that matter? In every other respect you are whichever sex you want to be. The rest is just a technicality.

biologically? No. Genetics determines that not your feelings. Now that isn't to say you need to punish them for being trans or even that you cannot treat them as a woman, but they are not biologically female.
Its a complicated issue as neurologically speaking they do have brain structures that are that of a woman, but being female is genetic and reproductive in nature and in those two ways a trans female is going to be lacking.

The first time I met a trans girl was about 10 years ago. I was one of the dancers doing pow wow, and she interviewed me for her blog (or I think it was a research paper). Even though we had cultural differences, she was very respectful, very friendly and did not disagree with my opinions. That’s what a real feminine woman is supposed to be.

Being trans is not about having hobbies or interests that are different from your sex group, according to social norms. Even tho we cannot deny that a lot of trans people tend to express themselves in heteronormative ways that our ciset society has dictated. (for example: trans women tend to love wearing makeup and feminine clothes like how our society has been compelling women into doing, trans men tend to be hypermasculine and express themselves in ways that society has compelled men into that they should be (and there's nothing wrong with the way we choose to express ourselves))

Trans people usually go through transition to either match their biology with their gender (male or female) but there are also trans people (who happens to be non binary, gender fluid, gender non confirming, etc,...) that also go through transition to be comfortable in their body, even if it doesn't fit into a binary. - +1 y

You can be who you want. But don't take from women government benefits bc you made the choice to increase your health cost. Women born as women have no choice. They can get pregnant and have to maintain periods so the tax money is there to help out with that. As long as you identify woman but don't try to create a financial burden. We are born how we are. I know someone who works in a nursing home and one of their residents was born with a penis so they proclaimed him make of course, but he grew all natural like C cup boobs during puberty, so I’m my opinion, if they feel more feminine and want to go by female, then I’ll support them. It has to do with chromosomes but I haven’t really looked into the science of this yet.

@Chriscunning gender dsyphoria is exceedingly rare. But I did read a story about a ww2 combat pilot who had a wife and kids do this later in life (one of the first surgeries) and not regretting. There is even a more recent one of a former navy SEAL who did this. He’s one guy (or girl) I wouldn’t make tranny jokes to.

I don’t want to buy some hormones online and take them in secret only for my family to notice that I’m growing breasts and my ass getting bigger and more rounded, that would be awkward and not to mention it’s dangerous to take pills like that without them being prescribed by a doctor.
