People are different and behave differently. True some women will use compliments to give a guy subtle signs they like him. They might use it to find out if he is interested in them or as a way to to get him interested if they're too shy or don't want to directly ask for a date. However some girls are just more vocal about what they think and will give out compliments instead keeping their thoughts to themselves. I can complement people when I really like something about them. It doesn't mean I'm interested in them.

I'd also argue it depends on the type of compliments you get. Especially compliments for your natural physical features often can indicate some attraction towards you while them commenting on an article of clothes you wear is a different story. Another factor is how close you are. If it's a friend complimenting you it's different from a colleague or stranger giving you complements. It also depends on the situation you're in. There's also the question about cultural norms in your area and if the other person is from a place with different norms around compliments. There's just a lot of factors.

Some people might also use compliments as conversation starters and they can be great for it.

It's things like this that make me apprehensive about complementing guys🤦‍♀️. A complement is just that, a complement.

When girls flirt you don't need to second guess it as a guy because she makes it blatantly obvious (after a lot of courage). If she says you're cute, it means you remind her of her little cousin lol.
If you have to ask yourself does she really like my shirt or does she flirting, trust me she just likes your shirt.

Most girls don't flirt, when they like a girl. As a guy you may never notice that she likes you. However if she chooses to flirt, it will be so straight forward you'll get nervous.

If your a guy the magic question is HOW they are complimenting you. If they call you cute and/or handsome that’s a obviously sign.

However if they never compliment you on your looks but compliment you on everything else that can be a bad sign. Good chance your friendzoned and she feels that she can console you otherwise. She knows you like her and likely “feels bad” she doesn’t feel the same. Although she means well it’s unfortunately very misleading for guys. And again it is without a doubt the friéndzone.

If she never compliments you at all but teases you a lot that can actually be a very good or very bad. Some people think that is playful way to flirt. It can be but be careful how you do it. On the flip side she has zero romantic interest in you and sees you as a sibling.

A woman doesn't have to like you to give you a compliment. That is actually a fact. I am beginning to think that a lot of the time we ax humans to forget things that are natural to us as we grow older.

The same applies to men too. A man can compliment a woman without necessarily liking her.

When a woman likes a guy or a guy likes a woman, there are usually other signs beyond the compliment that is a give a away.

Assuming a simple compliment usually means something other than some one showing appreciation, is a bit shallow.

Merely because a “study” exists that draws a conclusion doesn’t mean that the study is without error. People should understand that studies can be flawed, purposefully misleading, and/or downright wrong. Merely because a person gives you a compliment doesn’t mean that she likes you. Anybody that believes otherwise definitely has poor social skills. People often give compliments to break the ice when socializing, to begin a conversation, and/or make new friends, depending on the person. Straight people give people of the same gender compliments all the time without any desire to form a romantic/sexual relationship with them. Compliments are just simply a friendly way to socialize and shouldn’t be taken as anything more than that. If you wish to uncover whether a girl likes you, don’t go by what random “studies” say. Talk to her and ask her out yourself. If she accepts, then you know that she likes you.

I don't know why any woman would compliment a man unless she's really interested in him. That will just lead him on and send the wrong signals.

Women are terrible communicators. They are the ones who play head games and they are the ones who foolishly expect a man to "read her mind" all the time.

Men are great communicators. We say exactly what's on our mind and we mean exactly what we say. If a woman needs to ask what a man "meant" when he said such and such, either she's dumb or she wasn't listening as closely as she thought she was.

Not everything conceals an agenda. Some people are just raised to be nice unless treated poorly. It feels good to make people feel good, especially if it’s unexpected.

I do think more women want to give men compliments. A lot of us know that men don't receive enough of them! I personally like making my male friends smile and feel seen/appreciated, especially since some of my buddies get regularly talked over in group settings.

we ALSO know that compliments will pretty often be taken as flirting. This deters women who want to give compliments platonically, and encourages women who want to use them as flirting. I'm sure most women do a little bit of both.

I think the insistence that compliments don't equal flirting, or the push for people not to automatically assume that a woman is flirting with you if she gives you a compliment, comes from a place of love. Of course women are afraid of rejection... but i would not worry about whether a woman likes you or not. It does NOT matter if she does or doesn't seem to since 1.) many of them hide their feelings totally, and 2.) maybe she's not the woman you want. You're better off picking a woman and making a move, and never picking a woman just because she sends a signal. Unless you are just desperate to get any/all women.
