But if I was truly open about it, what would you girls think?
Do girls like a cynical guy?

There is nothing wrong with not preferring mainstream, I don't either. You'll do better though, if you don't promote how much you HATE mainstream. Instead, focus on what you LIKE instead. Show a girl a good time watching a band she's never heard of and she's bound to be thrilled. Or, sit and talk crap about anything mainstream, and she's bound to be looking at the clock and wishing herself out of the awkward conversation and out of the room. See what I mean?
I know what you meant and still, 70% guys is still 30% women. Point being, women like metal too. Also, she doesn't have to like everything you like, differences in couples is what makes a strong relationship, not the similarities. If a lady isn't going to like you because of the kind of music you like, do you really want to date her anyway?
I wouldn't mind it if you didn't go over board with it. I dated a guy that was very "anti-mainstream." Everytime I tried having a normal conversation with him, it was always "Ugh, I hate that!" or "Why do you like *enter whatever here*? It's so dumb and pointless."
It got extremely frustrating after a while and we broke up because of it. No one wants to deal with a negative nancy 24/7.
Well not many girls are going to be willing to deal with that. It comes off as being immature. If you don't like sometihng, then fine. You don't have to point it out constantly. It will make the girl think you're trying too hard to be a "bad boy."
I agree with this.

Cynicism is sexy as hell. Sarcasm is like talking dirty to me.
That's just me though.
I can't deal with people who are negative about everything 24/7. I work hard enough to keep my own head up. I don't want someone who tries to be a downer.
I think you mean cynical...but that isn't even what cynical means...I am confused.
Not for me. I'm depressed enough on my own.
