Do guys ever approach a girl out of pity?

Every time someone approaches me, regardless of gender (but especially men), I can't help but feel they've given an attempt at conversation out of pity for the quiet, somewhat cold girl who is sitting alone.

May I ask why you would walk up and try to talk? Is it pity? I hate the thought of that, as it is the last thing I want... it is just the only conclusion I can really grasp. If there are two things that I am NOT, they are: an inviting person, considering my painful awkwardness and shyness (and that I'm sure I come across as rude because of it), or a notably attractive person.

Um...I did once...kind of. It was our freshman year of college. Homecoming was coming up soon and we were talking about high school. She talked about how no one ever asked her to homecoming and made some kind of self-deprecating remark. I wasn't sure if she was fishing for an invitation or not, but I did ask her (we were chatting over an instant messenger).

The funny thing was that she and I barely hung out with each other at all at the dance the entire night. We stayed good friends though.

Very few guys would approach you out of pity. Most men approach women out of a desire for sex plain and simple.

I suggest you embrace your self a bit more, make a list of the things you like about your self. Repeat the ones you really like in your head at night before you go to sleep.

You have to love yourself before you will be able to truly accept the love another.

I feel like I'm reading something from inside my mind! I often feel this same way. But the way I like to see it; Why would a random person go out of their way to strike up conversation with a stranger if they didn't have some sort of interest? People don't exactly do 'favors' for people they don't know...unless they want to get to know them.

It might not be pity. They might be genuinely interested. You sound like a mysterious person and that makes people naturally curious.

None of the above, its actually because the shy girl seems like an easy target and will be easy to convince to have sex.

If she's ugly, I don't do anything but feel somewhat sad if she's sad nonetheless.
