How can I approach a shy guy (High school)?

I've fallen in "love" with the shy guy. He's exactly my type looks-wise (pale, tall, dark hair, blue eyes), but he's also always alone and never talks to anyone. I think he's a sophomore and I'm a junior. Also, I'm new to this school (~850). I just see him in the hallways, at lunch, and waiting for the busses... One thing always stays the same though; he's always alone. Never talking to anyone. Just going through motions the same way everyday, almost like a robot (ex.: Gets his lunch out, eats it, goes to locker.. all with the same expression). When we're waiting for busses, he's just looking off into the distance. It's like he's on a completely different wave-length..
REAL QUESTION/S: So, would he think I'm weird if I try to talk to him (since I'm older)? How would I start a conversation? Does he want someone to talk to him? I can't tell if he's content being alone or if he really wants someone to start a conversation. If you need further context, just ask. Thanks so much! :)

It would be quite flattering if some girl came up to me and started a conversation. One year difference isn't enough to make a difference. He sounds basically how I was the very beginning of high school.

If he is like me, he doesn't necessarily like being alone but he deals with it because he has to. He is eating lunch and doing things alone since he has no one to do it with. If you go up and talk to him, he may be awkward and shy for a bit. If you can get into his inner circle and get him to open up to you though, he'll become more talkative to you and he may even form a crush on you. You just need to persevere through his minor initial awkwardness.

However, especially if you are a talkative extrovert, don't push it to where he feels overwhelmed, but just ease into talking to him more and more. Also, I don't suggest bringing up his loner status, otherwise it will make it sound like you are talking to him out of pity and stuff. One time some girl came up to invite me over to sit with her (when I was a loner freshman) and it was incredibly awkward.

As a typically shy guy myself, I don't mind anyone approaching me, and I usually open up more to people I get used to. Try to find things of common ground first; things you both like. It'll help conversations flow better, and he'll be more likely to talk without feeling forced to. If he walks away, ignores you, etc., then just be persistent, but don't rush it. Take breaks. Give him some space for an hour or two, or even a day if he's that shy, then try again. If he REALLY doesn't want to talk, try just passing him notes whenever you can. He will soon warm up to you, but it will take time.

I was in the same situation as the guy you are on about. But what happened was that the girl came and spoke to me and asked for help on some work and she said that she had noticed I was good at it. So I helped her with that and we got talking more and more, becoming more friendly and having long conversations on a day to day basis. From there we sort of ended up dating and we've never looked back.

Honestly, I was just happy to talk to someone that didn't mind me and to become really good friends

Thats complicated... I think you need a real plan, he is prbably unexperienced so this matter can afect the way he reacts to you because he can be afraid of not being at the standar... the best way to do something is to "make" a situation where both of you talks as extrangers...

No go for it. Just say something like "Hey I see you around a lot and was just wanted to know who you are. I'm [your name], it's nice to meet you." and then just smile. Hopefully that will be enough for him to start talking to you. Just be really cheerful to be talking to him so it'll put him at ease a little bit.

It would be weird, but if you can hold a conversation I think he would be flattered. Maybe if you see something he's wearing, like a band tee shirt, and strike up a conversation that would be good. Most guys like it when the girl initiates things though.

Just go up to him at the bus stop and introduce yourself. I know this could be awkward but if you never approach someone you like you're never going to have a chance. I'm a junior in high school too, and personally I would be more then happy talking to a girl I just met. In fact, I have a crush on this girl in my class and I was planing on approaching her. You really got nothing to lose, the worst that can happen is getting a "no" if I can do it, you can do it so good luck! :)

Talk to him. As a shy guy myself, I love it when a girl approaches me cause that shows that she really wanna talk with someone who's quiet. Go for it. It's not gonna hurt anyone.

Just walk up to him and say "hi! I noticed you're always alone. Would you like to grab a drink with me?"
