I have a boyfriend that I've had for 2 1/2 years. He used to feel very visably attentive and attracted to me and I was happy, like I was very much on his mind and beautiful. We started very serious and he was always looking for a girl he felt would be a good potential wife. He felt I was that one for him after a short time. He used to always find me amazingly gorgeous and say romantic sweet things. We connected strongly. He was very intimate in his body language and words that said he really liked me. Now he acts unresponsive and dead, I have to literary ask him to look at my face/ eyes and he can't make eye contact for long without looking away. I think he used to think I was pretty but now he thinks I'm ugly or something.
He has gotten over trying to impress me and what used to impress him about me is just old and boring though he says he's not bored. He does do a lot for me, but he seems disengaged and distant unless he wants sex, he used to be very into me and now its like I'm not even there. He says he loves me more now.
He's not interested in anything I say, even if it's on a topic he enjoys. I don't have the kind of relationship where we call each other honey or say romantic things to each other and if I did he would make a sex joke.
I feel very sad because he used to make me feel so special. He says he would be devastated without me, he does big things for me like a husband would do by helping me financially etc. But we never do couple things and I'm very uncomfortable with him lately because the only thing I can do to feel connected to him is have sex.
Please, why the mixed signals? He cries if he feels hurt if I am not sensitive to his feelings or if we were to break up he would cry and be devastated, but he won't even really see me the way I need him to and I'm tired of trying to be noticed by him and failing.

Oh and when I try to smile at him and be cute he won't smile back he just looks away.
