Why do men think women have high standards?

Question

Personally, I think a lot of men do, looking for big b0obs and sexy girls with bucketloads of make up.
But as a girl, I can't really speak for the opposite gender.
However, I don't know a single girl with particularly high standards (although, I must admit, my friends and I are a little judgy, but we don't mean to be, and we'll always give you a chance.)
My standards are: someone kind, gentle, without a false persona. Preferably average + on attractiveness.
Nothing far below that and you're fine. So I don't understand all of the men saying that women/girls are so complicated and with high standards?

You're young, and your friends are young. I believe that you are telling the truth, at least for your friend group, but know this: women change as they get older, ESPECIALLY if they go to college and get brainwashed with extreme feminist views, and are constantly told that they're better and they deserve more, etc. And women are taught that their education, degrees, and careers enhance their value, and thus they deserve better men, but that's a lie, especially for the higher-value men. The higher-value the man is, the less he is going to value a woman's degrees or career. Men value youth, fertility, and cooperation in women. A poor man may see some value in a woman's career, but a high-earner is not going to care about it at all. And those will be the ONLY men those women will consider.

I know it's hard for you to see this as a teen, but if you look at women from college-age to 35, you'll really see this in action if you pay attention. YouTube and women's magazines/websites are full of videos and articles of women asking "where have all the good men gone?" Men aren't writing those articles and making those videos - it's women.

I don't remember if it was Plenty of Fish or Okcupid that did this study but the purpose of it was to see how even the attraction is between men and women. The results came out that 80% of female users only went for 20% of the male users. I don't know the ins and outs of that data but that is what it says so the data could be misleading for all I know.

It could mean that you and your friends are the exception and not the rule but it could also mean that using dating services might have some effect to it as well.

You know how it is with generalizations. Men want all this for looks and women want guys to make a lot of money. It doesn't necessarily apply to you, but it's just what everyone says.

Because some of us guys experienced rejections pretty often. The reason is that "average" is a pretty subjective category. Everybody defines "average" for themselves.
Because of these rejections many of us don´t feel like we can meet such standards. Believe it or not I had girls in school classes who said that Shia Labeouf or Ryan Gosling are example for famous average looking guys.
So some guys will stay single because they are not fitting those standards.

It is true to a certain extent, particularly for teens and 20's, where many guys tend to focus more on physical attraction, while girls do this also, they also look for additional qualities on top of physical attraction.

So I guess this makes some think that women have higher standards, but as guys get older, they start to seek those additional qualities too and so it evens up.

I think it's one of those things one side thinks of the other because they don't understand. It is also heavily subjective. I know a lot of women who think men have high standards and I know a lot of men who think women have high standards. It typically is rationalized by women and men in their lives who had high or unrealistic expectations and they judge everyone based on the select few. :/

Right? It's like they're not living in reality.. I see gorgeous girl with an average guy everywhere.. I see very well put together girls with broke guys everywhere.. I see high maintenance girls with lazy guys... Some guys take rejection and stretch it out to huge generalizations and theories and once they get some, they'll start making fun of guys who believe in these stuff

I feel it's women who have higher standards, and it makes sense, even though we have birth control now, that's only a very modern thing when you compare to how long we humans have been on Earth, birth control hasn't been around long enough for the female mind to adapt to that completely.

Not high standards, unrealistic standards. The kind of man a lot of women claim to want isn't even 25% of the human population - over 6 feet tall with hulking abs that always charms them or some shit like that. Movies portray us like that... And it's stupid really.

It is a well accepted fact that women have higher standards in dating than men do. It's just a fact. It's understandable when you consider the mating strategies of men and women throughout human history, but regardless, it's just a fact. You are probably too young to see it is real life but you will.

You'll start to see what we mean as you get older. Women start getting suuuper picky about things like income, height, etc. Women will also reject guys over really stupid and inconsequential things.
