Semi shy guy is he kinda into me or do I need to back off?

There’s this guy I’ve had a crush on for a bit of time now, I met him via friends. I heard about him before I met him, that he was an overly serious good looking guy. At the time I met him I had a boyfriend so, I didn’t really think much of him besides the fact he was cute. my friend was surprised he was as talkative as he was with me off the bat but I felt he became a tad bit more reserved throughout the night after I mentioned my boyfriend in a topic (even though my friend argues he still came around often and found him doing a pinky promise move on me sus).

Fast forward to me being single (which I haven’t mentioned to most) and he’s still talkative yet I feel he doesn’t approach me in crowded rooms? When I talk to him he does reciprocate (even though I either get too shy and wonder off or he does the same) and if we’re both a bit drunk (I see him at parties) he leans in really close when we talk, hugs me, has even practically laid on me on a couch, and one time even pecked my knee because he spilt something on it. He’s sometimes left the parties at the same time as me/walked me to my car or driven with me to get food. Not big things, just little ones.

But I don't know, he’s also huggable with most people under the influence and also leans into convos. I also feel he’s more comfortable approaching other people to start conversations with. I know I’ve gone out of my way to make small talk, but I don’t want to come off strong or creepy. And I’ve only caught him staring a few times, not too many. I tell my friend maybe he’s into the other girls he approaches more, and hugs/leans into but she argues they’re just more aggressive than I am. Whatever that means. she stands by the fact he’s more hyped when I’m there but meh, I don’t think she knows him well enough. But yeah, u all think I’m over analyzing or should back off? though I never told the guy I have a thing for him! It’s been a while since I’ve been single so I don’t even know how this kinda stuff works anymore

1) it sounds like he’s doing all the work and you kinda just reciprocate. If you want to take it to the next level maybe stop expecting men to do all the work and ask him out

2) Whenever a girl says they have a boyfriend I automatically leave them alone. I’m not trying to get into drama even if they breakup because for some reason women LOVE to talk about their boyfriends/ex’s as if we enjoy hearing who they used to be with. It’s a complete turn off. He probably doesn’t know if you still have feelings for your ex, and he’s afraid of being rejected if he takes it to the next level.

My best advice is find a situation when you both aren’t under the influence. That is the only way you will really get to know how he feels about you.

Suggest a lunch or something casual where you can talk, free of alcohol.
