Guys, My boyfriend left me and I’m so confused?

So my boyfriend (now ex I guess) has left me recently. His reason was that he had some things to deal with in his life and wasn’t sure how to cope - I know this isn’t a lie because I know what they are and I do understand they will be awful for him.
What I don’t get is why it warrants our relationship to end when there wasn’t anything wrong with it, we where even talking about moving in together a few weeks ago. (if there was he never spoke to me about it so I’m none the wiser)
He hasn’t asked for his belongings back that I have at mine, and he hasn’t returned mine I have at his either.
He hasn’t blocked me on social media but has unfollowed me, which has upset me.
I’ve tried to message him, but he won’t message me back he’s just cut me off.
I love him so much and I’m so worried about him and I want to be there for him in any capacity he needs me to be, at the end of it all he’s still my best friend.
Can anyone help me understand as to why he’s cut me off? Am I wasting my time in worrying about him?
What do I do? Will he come back?

I have no idea what he is going through obviously, but he almost sounds like to me that he wants to break up because it’ll make things simpler for him (one less thing to deal with/relationship to maintain). However, he also hasn’t given you your things back or asked for his. That’s part of formally ending the relationship in a respectful and mature manner. In order to do this you have to text with the other person and communicate. He is not doing that with you.

So in other words it’s like he hasn’t fully committed to ending the relationship—either formally with you like I mentioned, or internally psychologically. Everyone has that thought, “shit, I want to get my stuff back,” or they become tired of looking at your stuff.

I think he is going through some things (whatever that is) and is confused and trying to sort himself out. I think part of him will regret his ending things, which is why he hasn’t proceeded with it. He may just need some alone time, like a separation for a bit. 🤷‍♂️

It could be that he'd rather try to handle everything he's going through by himself so he doesn't burden you anymore more with his problems. he more than likely still loves you he just doesn't want to be a burden on you, it may not seem like he's a burden on you in your eyes but it may seem that way in his. And doesn't want you to regret being with him and causing you possible emotional harm by helping him with his problems while being a relationship. leaving to be a better person for someone you love

I understand this I really do but like you said i would never see him as a burden.
I would literally do anything for him and he knows it deep down.
He won’t talk to me so I can’t relay this to him really. I just hope he will be okay.

No problem, and I hope he talks to someone im sorry atm its not you, I hope one day it clicks and he understands you're there for him before its to late and he completely loses you

How long was the relationship? Would the awful personal situations he has to deal with warrant protecting you or does it warrant positive support from individuals with his best interest in mind?

We’ve had a on off relationship for about 4yrs. This however was our clean slate if anything.
I know it’s a family thing and maybe he wants to just be concentrating on that for now.
I just feel confused and lost.
