Do guys use their friends to get to the girl they like?

I have a female classmate (same major, so similar classes often) that I’ve known since school started last September. I met her boyfriend’s roommate at a party. He’s exactly what I’m looking for (cute, tall, smart), so I’m trying not to look at him with rose colored glasses. We have a snap streak as well. Now suddenly, this classmate friend has started inviting me to hang out with her and her friends (which includes this guy!!). The guy doesn’t really make conversation over Snapchat a lot (but then again, neither do I), but he also might be a little shy? My question is, do guys have their friends invite girls they like to events so it’s not too obvious that he likes them? I’m daydreaming that this guy has asked my classmate to invite me so he can get to know me better on the down low! But it could also be that this girl just wants to become better friends, you know? And the roommate is just a coincidence. Please help!!!

Dont think just a coincidence. Also maybe they want to be friends and to get you know better and qpproach if things went well.
