How do I approach a guy after it sounds like I rejected him?

My hallway crush, lets call him Steve. A couple days ago, his friend said that Steve thinks I'm cute and asked for my snap to give to him. I dont have a phone, so obv no snap, but i do have insta. I said "Sorry I don't have a snap" and was about to mention instagram but Steve said "Nah thats fine" and we all walked away. Ever since then, we've been making hella eye contact in the hallways. Also, I know that he's awkward when talking to girls so that might affect this. Today my friend convinced me to text him through insta. She said to reply to his story saying "heyy" so i did. Now almost 12hrs later, he hasn't responded. My guy friends that was a bad move and he might think its creepy. What do I do?

Be cheeky and cute, write down your Insta handle on a piece of paper, go up to him and say something like, as you know I don’t have snap, but I do have Insta, I think you should add me, and if your interested in taking me out for a coffee, send me a DM and wink at him and cute laugh xx

I do not think it was creepy. Communicating with insta is fine. Have you tried just talking with him? Maybe go for a walk with him and just get to slowly know each other. I'm sure he is way nervous as most young teen guys are. Do you want to go out with him?

Lol. That was a bad idea to reply "heyyy" to a story lol. Talk to the guy directly. Explain what happened and tell him you're interested in talking through insta.

Well it's not too late to start. When he's alone, go tell him can I speak to you? He should say yes. And then you say, I don't know if you got the wrong idea when you got the wrong idea when you asked for my snap through your friend, I don't have snap that's why I said no. I have insta though and I've left you a message. (If the response is negative, say "cool" and walk away like you don't care much).
