Why does my ex-bf introduce his going-to-be girlfriend to me?

hello everyone

After months of avoiding my ex-bf calls and text, today he finally get to talk with me via call. It was a long call, he did ask about my life so I said it was going well, and all of sudden he asked whether I got into a new relationship or not. My answer was 'prefer not to say' and he assumed that I'm already in one which I don't feel like making any changes to it. In return, I asked him back the same question and he said he likes a girl and might be in a relationship if all goes well. soon after that, we started to share about each other relationship, and without me asking, he said they were talking for like 4 months and both of them liked each other. I said my guy is a gentleman to be with but I'm hesitating to be in a relationship for now.

What surprised me is that

1. why would he share about his girl when he knows I will get hurt and when he has the option not to share them? Is he testing me?

2. Why would he still sound very helpful and friendly? (he said ' you can text me any time you want if you feel like talking' and 'if you don't, I would check up on you every week for at least 5 minutes)

3. Why would he still want to travel 3 hours just to meet me when he could just use the same traveling hours to meet her?
