Is his flirting a red flag?

There’s a guy, who I know is interested in me because he makes it pretty obvious that’s what he’s doing, he’s the type that’s always ornery and giving people a hard time. That’s just how he likes to joke around. However, some of the things he’s said when trying to pick on me, have ended up being really insulting. I don’t know if it’s just one of those things where you’re teasing someone trying to be playful and didn’t mean to go too far but did, or if this is a red flag.

Example: We were joking around and I used the word audacity in a sentence and he responds with, “I’m surprised you even know that word”. Another time he and my brother were teasing me about how much I spend on my hair and he goes, “and it looks like that?”

I am ornery/sassy too, so I don’t know if he doesn’t realize that it’s too much or just a clumsy attempt at flirting.
