This is the clip behind the question, although it's kind of old. Do you think there is any actual base behind the categories of alpha, stigma, beta, etc?

Absolute cringe, and I will tell you why.
I'm all for traditional masculinity. Strong, stoic and brave men built the world we live in, and continue to maintain society and infrastructure. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
What I think the problem is, is the misuse of that terminology. The words "alpha" and "beta" have become so commonly used, that they have in a way lost their meaning. In the animal kingdom, the alpha male is usually the chief of the tribe, and the one who calls the shots. It's not everyone who gets to be an alpha, rather ONE in that tribe, and they have to EARN it. What I see a lot of nowadays is weak and insecure dudes calling themselves alpha, but being average at best when it comes to resources, fitness, intelligence and social awareness and that as a result has cheapened the word "alpha". It became as commonly used as stupid astrology signs for people who lack the competence to understand that human behavior is not linked to their birth month, but that's another topic.
The word "sigma" has been there for a while, but has recently become popularized through meme culture. In a nutshell, a "sigma" is the silent "alpha", or the man who is the confident loner that doesn't need a crew to survive. The sigma male can conquer a new tribe by himself, and consider himself as the new leader of that tribe. Sounds very badass when I describe it that way, doesn't it? Who doesn't want to be the tough "lone wolf"? One problem though, majority of loners/introverts are shy and suffer from social awkwardness. There are plenty of people who call themselves "sigma male" and are just lying to themselves, who are nothing more than a clumsy mess. As you can see, the word starts to lose it's value, and once again turns into a joke.
Now, the most confident men do not feel the need to call themselves anything. Whether they are a charismatic extroverted man, or a mysterious and charming introvert, they don't have to tell you what they are and you will KNOW that they are different. Compliments mean nothing to you if you are content with yourself, and the need for validation from women or other men disappears because you live for yourself and not for other people.
Your last paragraph sums it up nicely, and all others are true. No need for self validation. in my opinion a good man (let's just call it that way) does not need any validation from externals. He does what he believes and KNOWS what is good and others will rightfully label him as something what we call an alpha... it's not something you tag yourself as.
This guy is being political.
Red pill has to do with being a straight up and honest person about who you are. If you're a guy, There's nothing wrong with being a guy.
Many women are Red Pill. If you're a girl, there's nothing wrong with being a girl.
Red pill is about exposing fraud and corruption. This guy is trying to conflate red pill as being insecure as a man.
Some people are fraudulent and corrupt.
This guy is a fraud, He hates being a man and would rather be a woman. If you are a lie to yourself, you are a lie to everyone around you. He is blue pill.
If he’s consistent- in his productivity/ A-Game/ Independence/ good character/ growth
I don’t really mind if he’s bragging lol
Animals don’t brag.. No alpha wolf is gonna brag lmao
Humans could do that if they wanted to. (Intellect) I mean, if I cook a mean breaded chicken and pasta- I’m gonna brag about it.. 🤣
Like, “woa taste that. Tell me you never tasted anything this good, in your life. You never tasted a chicken and pasta like THAT. Now let’s take a minute to savor in this spiritual ecstasy.” 🧘♀️🍜🍗
🤣
What comes to my mind when I hear “alpha male?”
The guys who aren’t consistent with anything, but stupidity, and immaturity.
They wanna be THAT guy, but they never seen what THAT guy looks like, or was mentored by one 😂👐
A lot of counterfeits out there, and they can score a few women, but real ones know they’re not a true Alpha. They very well could be the equivalent to a rabid dog, who’s brains are eaten in, and they “break away from the pack” to just fall off a cliff 💀👌
They don’t just “make” their own way.
They make a way for themselves that can be admirable to others, that would be so attractive, others would want to follow (OR make their own similar path)- and not only so, but benefit from 80% of the time, traveling those paths, if not a 100% of the time.
Alphas can get some serious scars for making that way. It’s never easy.
They sometimes go against the grain.
But it’s just plain ‘cute,’ to hear the pups try to howl like the real ones ☝️😂
I laugh and then cringe. Never mind that alpha theory in wolves has long since been disproven hearing a dude say he’s an alpha is an instant turn off and red flag. Same goes for the self proclaimed nice guys. Confidence is nice and can be sexy as can security. But if a guy has to brag about himself to make himself seem more important I view that as insecurity and he wouldn’t be someone I want to be around. It’s the same for my gender as well, if a girl needs to brag about her achievements to feel validated I see that as an insecurity issue. There’s also a difference between a humble brag or just mentioning an achievement you’re proud of and just making things about you.
It hasn't been disproven... wolf packs have alphas.
Wolf packs are a family unit, they have a parent pair. Not alphas a mom and a dad. Some packs do have outsiders that defer to the parents but the whole study that said wolves have alpha pairs was conducted on captive wolves that weren’t a family unit just several different wolves put together in a pack, so there was fighting for a top position. Higher position means more food. When the offspring of the pack reach roughly 2 years old they tend to leave their home pack and find a mate and a new territory to start their own family. Even the people who did the study admit it was flawed because at the time all they could study were captive wolves.
Totally false once again. Wolves are hierarchal. The alpha is the only one that breeds because he is the most alpha. It isn't by mere virtue that he's the "dad".
Not false. Every pack is a family unit. Now you’re right about it being a hierarchy where the offspring and those that join vie for a higher position and rank each other (same with domestic dogs and litters of puppies) the adult male has a chosen mate they’re the only ones to mate because they’re the parents. Young females of breeding age have been known to mate with dispersal males and stay within their family pack as well.
So in other words alpha males exist
What you said makes no sense
It makes plenty of sense. There are no alpha males and females it’s a family unit led by parents. The father only breeds with his mate because wolves don’t inbreed. He will attempt to mate with a daughter but she will attack him. Daughters will sometimes mate with roaming males. But more often offspring will leave their family pack to find a mate and territory of their own then the cycle of family units start over.
Thats bullshit. There are alphas. Stop convoluting it with who gets to mate and why. The fact is there is 1 male everyone is subordinate to. But wolves aren't like hyenas. Hyenas let females eat first and attack males. Basically a feminist wet dream. The alpha male of a wolf pack isn't feminist.
Alpha is a made up human term. It is a family unit. If you can’t understand simple biology that middle schoolers seem to be able to grasp then there’s no helping you. Hyenas are run by a Queen. Meaning it is female orientated, males are smaller than females. And there can be more than one male in a clan of hyenas.
Males are abused, and raped by female hyenas. They live like slaves. Theyre feminists.
Alpha means boss. Bosses aren't nice. Get over it.
When we need to talk about the top 2% of men who get all the pussy we say alpha
Its called human ethology. And alpha is a term used for men who dominate the sexual market place. It isn't foolish.
In hook up culture (casual sex)... abour 1/100 men get ANY sex compared to about 90/100 women (who try hooking up). Do you understand why we have the word alpha now.
Nobody talks to women about this stuff. doesn't matter if its unattractive. Smart men are well informed.
NOBODY CARES IF ITS UNATTRACTIVE. NOBODY IS TRYING TO IMPRESS YOU. ITS AN ANALOGY PEOPLE USE TO UNDERSTAND THE SEXUAL MARKET PLACE.
If I was insecure would I waste my time talking to a bitch
Id probably be coding a video game instead of bullying you
You are proving the theory wherefrom the alpha, sigma, beta, ..., gamma, classing stems.
The guy bragging in a way that turns you off isn't an alpha. That's why you, who really like alphas, are turned-off or not turned-on by that one.
The general theory stands, unchallenged, outside of perhaps laughable wishful thinking masqueraded as alternative theories.
The animal nature of humankind, and the reality about "animals" likewise, don't need be denied. They can, as pertains humankind, be gone past. You develop your properly human component, and it comes to govern you more than your animal part.

I usually think that I understand the kind of thing he’s going for, but that he’s going about it the wrong way
It's "sigma" not "stigma" by the way
But of a guy calls himself either of those, he is definitely neither. Mostly because nwither of those actually exists since relationship hierarchies are much more complicated, but also because a guy who calls himself alpha is just a muscular or good-looking beta or an omega trying to feel less inadequate. And a sigma is a beta who is tried of competing with alphas or an omega who wants to seem edgy because he's not as popular as he'd like to be.
The only people who actually be considered alphas or sigmas never once mention either of those words. Have you ever heard Muhammed Ali call himself an alpha? What about Magic Johnson or Larry Bird? Exactly.
I've seen and heard a LOT of "so-called Alphas" boast, brag, start shit... and pretend all this act left and right, but the very moment I show up (or someone else alike) they instantly tone it down... and sometimes they either start to wiggle their tails or hide them between their legs
that BS is always funny, where did all that Alpha energy go?
but that was all juvenile stuff, immature dudes... no actual grown up I know nowadays would ever be such stupid to go around claiming to be Alphas, not here, not where I live and around the people we live, lmao...
"NEXT." It reeks of insecurity and a lack of ability to understand nuance.
If he's pursuing divine masculinity or healthy masculinity that's the green flag. I want someone who reads books and goes to therapy and finds themselves through exercise and spending time in nature... I don't want someone who mindlessly does what some blowhard like Andrew Taint tells them to do.
People who just follow the expectations of others out of shame or fear like most "alpha male" wannabes do are PRIME targets for a cult. It really just reeks of low intelligence.
Trying to fit yourself into a predefined classification for public approval and using that to inform people of your worth is, perhaps not surprisingly, one of the most beta things you can do.
So it is all nonsense of course. But sure, a list of generally positive and generally negative attributes has some value. Although this might not be the list you want.
That’s labeling yourself
Same as I’m Pisces or Libra I’m introvert or extrovert I’m this and that
You can’t be linear all your life. You can be a sheep a lion depending from where life throws you
etc so labeling yourself as an alpha omega sigma vitamin C and Cod Liver Oil etc it’s stupid
I picture a peacock strutting around the yard thinking he's the shit while at the same time, little miss peahen is in the barn being artificially inseminated by a specimen from some other farm's top cock.
There's always somebody bigger, faster, smarter, prettier, whatever.
The alphas and sigmas just don't know it.
I believe a respectable man has to have the self sense to ignore primal animal instinct. In civilized society, we compete with our brains and hearts and not our chests and muscles and if a man insists on operating by animal instinct and not on logical thinking, than he deserves to be treated like trailer trash.
Real alpha males (and females) will never openly refer themselves with such labels. They show it through their actions.
Having to outright say that is just a cover for deep insecurity. Maybe some people can fake it until they make it but that’s rarely the case from what I’ve seen. Just watch a so called self avowed “alpha” get tested with a big setback or failure. Usually they can’t handle it.
One good example would of been Rhonda Rousey after she lost her first mma fight years ago. A week after the loss she was on the Elle show saying she was “suicidal”. Not to downplay the seriousness of suicide. However no true alpha male would ever go out and say that after a huge setback when everything else in their life is going well (Rhonda did get rich and she was famous).
Oh, I cannot stand any of those words. If they call themselves those words of use betasomething as an insult. I believe good insults are sometimes needed in certain arguments but anything that starts with Beta won't be a good insult. But calling yourself a alpha-something is terrible. You are not suppose to give yourself a title. I dislike those words.
Alpha, Sigma or whatever new term might come around, it's all synonyms of having attributes that attract women. Period.
So in a sense it's a "real thing", I guess.
Woman say the same, but instead use the phrase "real man" instead of "alpha".
"Where have all the real men gone?"
A truly self confident person doesn't get anything from showing it off. Cause that kind of person looks for their strength within them, not outside them.
Outside people have all kinds of opinions, and things go bad from time to time.
But the truly confident person knows those don't really matter much in the long run. In the long run what matters is what you do often, and everything else is just an exception.
I didn't watch the clip, but based on your headline, my initial reaction reminds me of what Margaret Thatcher said: "“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't."
Being an "alpha male or real man", same thing - if you have to refer to yourself as one, you aren't.
I like all the comments about its not technically exactly specific so therefore it's not legit. You know an alpha when you see one and a beta when you see one. Give me a damn break. If you don't I honestly think there is a mental deficiency at play or something because it's very obvious.
First of all, it’s ‘sigma’, not “stigma”. Ell oh ell! Now that that’s out of the way….
People who use those terms to describe humans are ignorant. That’s exactly what i think when i see or hear that nonsense. The “information age” certainly hasn’t made the average person any smarter. Ell oh ell! “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.”
If a guy IS truly a leader of men, an example for others, he doesn't need to proclaim that to others; it is apparent through his actions. Guys who TALK about being alpha are compensating for their insecurities.
Pathetic, if they can attract the majority of females then they don't need to boost we would notice. That is rarely the case. They are just average men like the rest of us.
Thanks for waving that giant red flag right in front of my face so I know to avoid you.
Social status delusion.
If you're a king, you don't need to tell everyone that you're a king because people who know you treat you like a king.
Thats a lie.
Most alphas think they’re alphas but really aren't. Most sigmas don't know they are sigmas, they just know they're a man who is smarter than alphas.
