Guys, what does it mean if my guy friend doesn’t want other guys trying to talk to me?

2 years ago I told my guy friend a little bit about how I felt about him, but I think he put me in the friend zone... I didn't let that ruin our friendship and I never mentioned my feelings for him again. A few months ago he seemed to have fallen off of the face of the earth. I have respect for him and myself so I just left him alone although secretly I was missing him a lot. At the end of May, he randomly texted me and since then he has been sporadically texting me until last month. Now he texts me quite regularly and he recently started opening up and sharing things with me. I sent him a personal picture and I told him not to let anyone else see it, and he promised that he will never do that because "just seeing your face is enough to make people try to contact you and I don't want anyone trying..." (those were his exact words to me) I was wondering if that's a subtle way of him saying maybe he is starting to get feelings for me, or am I just thinking too much into it?

He has feelings for you, but when you told him he didn't know how to act on those feelings till he was 100% now that he is that is a subtle hint that he likes you. You should confront him and ask him personally if he likes you or is this body going to belong to some one else? ( Not that harsh of terms but asking him directly will help at this time )

Thank you. I do appreciate it, whenever he shares anything even things that he doesn't think are relevant, I tell him I appreciate it that he shared it with me. I listen to him even when he doesn't feel like talking I listen to his silence by sneaking glances at him so I can read his facial expressions and body language.
