Can someone help me decipher if a guy likes me or if he is being friendly?

there is a boy in my Spanish class, we sit together and everyday we say ‘hi’ and as the school-year has gone by we have gotten more comfortable and close. well, the first time i questioned if he likes me was when he tried giving me bread, and continued trying to give me food. everytime he has food he made in his cooking class he tried to give it to me. we also are partners for all class-work. last week we shook hands and he playfully hit me on my head. and i often catch him looking at me. when i was absent for a day he told me he missed me. he shows me his drawings and tells me a lot about his childhood and family. he talks a lot, and told me i should talk more too because i am interesting. one day, he sat next to me even though there were many open seats left. i personally have had a crush on him for 5 years, so i just wanna see if i am right about my gut instinct, or if i am being delusional.

I don't think you are delusional. I think there is some interest there. That is my gut instinct. What you are describing is flirting to me. He is trying to get your attention, do favours and be playful around you.

I see that you are under 18, which this makes even more sense now. At younger ages, flirting is awkward. He doesn't know what to do next is my guess and hoping that you will be the one to make a move.

Now, even though this is what I think is happening does not mean that it is a 100% truth. It could also be that over time he has just become good friends with you. That is a possibility that he sees you as nothing more than a very good friend.

I personally don't think that is the case, but I could be completely wrong. Now, are you flirting with him back? If so, what sort of reactions do you get? my natural personality is flirty so i am sure i flirt with him subconsciously. i also maintain eye contact a lot, he doesn’t break that eye contact. i’m neurodivergent it’s kind of hard for me to recognize my own let alone other people’s responses to things

Okay, well if you want my honest opinion, I would definitely side with him liking you. From the details you give, it definitely sounds like he is flirting and trying to get your attention.

Just remember that it is hard at that age to finally get to that point where you have the courage to actually admit you like someone to that person. We all fear rejection. He does too. It sounds to me that you are both doing the same thing, flirting with the hopes the other will say something.
