Why is he asking if I love him even though we aren’t together? (Page 2)

I’ve been talking to this guy for three months now. We both have said we like each other, and we flirt a lot. Recently he’s been asking me, out of no where, “Do you like me?” And I’ll say “yes” then he will say “Do you love me?” And I’ll say “no” (for obvious reasons) after that he will say something along the lines of keep it that way. Him asking that one time, okay understandable… but he’s asked it three times in two days. I’m so confused. We aren’t together. Both of us have said we could very well be together in the future or we’ve hinted at it. At the moment we are “still getting to know each other more”. I am just so confused about this love question.. The last time he asked, I answered “I like you a lot” I think he freaked out a little to be honest. I then had to explain that “Love” was on a very very different level to me than “like” or “ like a lot”. I am very confused. Could someone please help me understand why he is asking this or what could be going through his mind? Or if I should be concerned?
