Why would a guy go for someone that’s usually not his type?

I dated my ex for 7 months and we were in the talking stage for little over a year I’m a brown skin women and his ex’s that I have seen pictures of are all light skin women. his last ex which is his child’s mother is a light skin bbw (he eventually left me for her). when I scrolled onto his old Facebook post he only posted light skin or mix raced women on his page and on his instagram he mainly follows light skin women his celebrity crushes are light skin women (ex. Latto and ice spice) it seems like I was never really his type why did he waste so much time with me was he just using me as a placeholder until he got back with his ex?

Guys don't adhere to types like girls assume we would. In fact, like breast size, and hip dips girls care way more about 'types' than guys. (ie crap that only matters to you, not us) We probably have our preferences, but that doesn't we just refuse to date brunettes because we prefer blondes.

i, like most guts dont really have a type. i mean i have dated older and younger, tall and short, petite and chubby, multiple races, long hair and short hair, blonde, brunette, black hair, red hair , girly girl and tomboy, big tits and small tits, well educated and basic education, comes from a good family and comes from crappy family, etc. so tell me what "type" i have.
