Why would he even joke like this if he claims he doesn’t have a crush on her. He’ll get quiet when she mentioned a guy she likes then he’ll say he doesn’t give a fuck.

Because he likes her. Men who like women tease them in a joking manner. What you may perceive as him being mean is his way of showing affection. Most men do it to each other. I get nowadays it’s acceptable to do a hand shake w a half hug between men, but growing up we never did that. It was always a hand shake w some sort of put down but laughingly. Like what’s up dick nose, or dip shit, especially in the military. If we didn’t pick on you or “bag” on you as we used to say it meant we didn’t like you. When it comes to things like that w men toward women saying I’m joking, there’s usually some truth behind it. He’s hinting to you “jokingly” w out coming out directly saying what he wants to say. Hell play it off as a joke as well if things become awkward.
