Is it weird for a taken guy to ask a single person if I've been in a relationship?

There's this guy I work with who is engaged and I'm single.

We get along well and sometimes go out for coffee on our morning tea break.

He's never made a pass at me, today he asked me a weird question.

He knows I'm single and he asked me "have you ever been in a relationship"

I replied I've been with a few guys but not long term for about a year.

Then he was like "it will happen for you"

Do you think this is a personal question? I was just surprised at what he asked especially the "ever" part of it.

Yeah that is weird to ask out of the blue. If it came up organically I could understand but by the sound of it that wasn't the case. The response is kinda rude don't ya think? Like he is saying hang in there you will have one. I'd be like fuck off dude to be honest lol. I agree that it is a personal question and if it was not part of whatever you were discussing a little strange to ask.
