Why does he want me years after he rejected me?

I look even worse than when he rejected me so why does he want to get to know me now? We don't talk and he hardly knows anything about me. At first I assumed he was just desperate because he wants me despite not being physically attracted to me but he is handsome and I've seen him interact and flirt with women a few times so apparently he does have options. Why would a guy change his mind about a girl he hardly knows after rejecting her? He found out that I asked a friend of him a few personal questions about him but would that flatter a man enough to want to date an unattractive or just not attractive woman?

Obviously he regrets rejecting you. You also are probably more attractive than you realize.
