Would you text someone if their Facebook messenger is blocked?

We have a family friend, who I've always admired. I've know him since my 20s. He's now 51.

Sadly his wife passed away last year in July.

I haven't seen him yet as he usually lately just calls my parents and since his wife was sick and then passed, I have thought about him a lot and wanted to see how he's doing.

I found him on Facebook and he accepted my friend request. I messaged him to say hi and it bounced back saying " they don't allow message requests from everyone"

I don't think he even sees the message.

I was telling two of my friends this at the same time. One of them was like "Why don't you get his number from your parents phone and text him." Then my other friend agreed.

I don't know if that's a bit stalkersish.

If I was him my thought would be like:

I accepted her friend request and now she is going through her parents phone to text me.

Then I don't know if he will tell my parents about it.

Do you think it's a bit stalking if I send him a text message also my friend said to wait a week, then try texting him.
