Is it true that men don’t play hard to get?

I have heard from people that men don’t play hard to get but I have actually witnessed a man hiding his feelings. When we played drinking games I noticed how my male friend was acting towards his other female friend and I asked him if he liked her he said he only liked her as a person and not sexually or romantically. I kept noticing how he flirted with her and I kept asking him and he kept denying it only for him to then admit months later that he indeed was interested in that girl lol.
