Do guys view bartenders as trashy?

I'm thinking about bartending because I know I can make plenty of money. I know my good looks can get me tips but I am in no way a slut. However, this Greek guy, who i assume has a thing for me told me bartending will eventually lead you to having sex with men and that the boss may want actually want that. Guys, hire do you cute bartenders be HONEST.

Any attractive girl who works at a bar is going to have a TON of guys who want to sleep with her, and especially due to the alcohol, a much greater percentage of those guys are going to actually hit on her and try.

This doesn't mean the girl has to respond, and some certainly don't, but some girls definitely DO respond and DO end up sleeping with some of the customers. While a bar will attract plenty of losers, a decent bar will attract some good-looking/confident/charismatic guys, and as is true anywhere, when such guys pay attention to a girl, most girls like it, and many respond to it even if they've told themselves they wouldn't.

This Greek guy knows and understands this, and while I'm sure he probably doesn't know you well enough to know which type of girl you are, he DOES understand that the added pressure, and the ready availability of hot, interested guys, will make it that much harder for a girl to remain faithful, and that makes him worried and perhaps jealous. Just knowing that such jobs INCREASE the chances of the girl cheating makes him uncomfortable.

Maybe you aren't the type to get caught up in any of that, and bartending would just be a job to you like any other. That definitely happens, but he wouldn't be wrong in pointing out that the odds of a girl in a different type of job cheating would be lower.

yeah and in fact i was just talking to a girl i like who used to be a bartender herself. the only tips she really ever got, was the guys number. she just threw them away, and hoped that next time he would just leave money, getting him the hint

Haha whaaat? I think that is so silly, unless you work in a bar in a cathouse you will never ever get hassled by customers. It's good money, you get good tips, never flirt, be professional, be friendly and you can't go wrong. Sure you got the odd person who will give you their number or try a line but it's rare, they are just drunk and trying their luck. It's a cool job, lots of fun and can be a great atmosphere if you bond with co-workers. If any boss every expects you to sleep with customers...tell him where to go and find another job.

It's a job and unless you are working in a really sleazy dive, I doubt you'd have to worry about your boss wanting you to have sex with customers. This Greek guy sounds like an idiot.

No...but a lot of guys don't like their girlfriends to do that job because female bartenders get hit on ALL the time.

It's just another job. If you can get it, you can make 200-400$ per nights in decent joints. This Greek guy is just an moron. Sure you'll get hit on a lot, just smile and be nice, you'll get nice tips. If someone offers you a shot, take it but just fill it with water. Most places have a special bottle just for this.

No one will want you to do anything except serve drinks quickly and be nice (meaning polite and friendly). It's a hospitality job. You have to talk with drunk people and make them feel good about their shitty lives (which is why they're drinking in the first place). The boss will never want you to have sex, unless you're working in a strip club. He'd actually lose money that way, expose himself to lawsuits, and so on.

Oh, and expect to have to work after the place closes to clean up the place and inventory the alcohol. It's not as easy a job as it looks, but the pay is great.

In my country it is just a job similar to working at McDonalds. You get to deal with the alcoholics and drunk people all the time. That is sort of low-level but it is better than toilet cleaning. They don't expect the women to have sex with the customers or anything like that.

Who do you mean by "he"? Another point to consider is that drunk people will hit on you way more often and the alcoholics are pretty lonely and might even stalk you, worst case scenario. It all depends what bar you are working in but the average bar here is not so friendly. There are always 1-3 24/7 customers and a lot of frequent visitors who just get drunk all day.

There are certainly trashy bartenders but I've never heard anyone thing bar tending is trashy in itself.

Anyone who thinks that is a douche. It's an incredibly hard job and they do it to serve you drinks so if your going to be a dick and call them trashy you can go home whit a case of natty ice

NOt us Irish. The barmaid is a cultural landmark in Ireland, and they receive a certain respect. We like to flirt with them, but only in a friendly and joking way. They are a big part of the ambiance of the pub where they work, and most clients would defend them in any conflict with ownership.

Here in the US, there IS a tendency to think women bartenders can be sexually abused without consequence.

You won't get forced to but you'll find if you joke and flirt you get better tips and more customer satisfaction. My ex worked as bar staff and she would get great tips as always flirting back and would get hit on a lot, though she was kinda into it in some way so the job just suited her. It is part of the job but some people enjoy it more than others. You will have to ignore a lot of inappropriate behaviour but if you act with respect and keep to a certain standard it will be fine.

If you work at a normal restaurant then it's like being a waitress. If you work at a strip club or something like that then it's pretty trashy. Either way it's a low end job that is typically performed by teenagers/college students. If that's the best that you can do, then do what you need to do to take care of yourself.

Yeah, it's unfair and unfortunate but people hire for certain jobs based on perceived attractiveness and good looks.

I wouldn't say that I see all female bartenders as slutty. Some behave that way, sure. But absolutely not all.

Being a people person doesn't make you trashy, i love too see a beautiful bartender that i can talk with, most of the time the patrons will be more protective over the female bartender than their own girlfriends

There was a woman bartender who would have countless guys hitting on her besides two guys, one of them was her boyfriend, and the other was his friend, one day the friend asked the boyfriend, why dont you ever get mad at the countless guys who hit on your girlfriend?
