I enjoy raw fish sushi anyway so no complaints. So what do you think about eating raw fish? Do you think it's good? Gross?
Any health nuts know of any benefits or drawbacks to it?
Not a fan, but I understand the nutritional benefit. Ever looked up how many parasites are in raw fish? 80% of fish caught in the USA is parasite infested. The ONLY way to kill them if properly cook it, or freeze it first. I'm a vegetarian so fish isn't on my menu anyway but those stats freak me out!
Hmmm...Used to think it was gross...but then I tried some REALLY good sushi. I'm a fan, but I try not to have it more than once or twice a month if at all.
Good sushi can't be beat! It's like the best stuff there is! :D
I love it with soy sauce, yum yum sauce, and what is it? That green, wasabi paste or whatever it is... It's pretty spicy but it's great!
Whyyy? I tried a habanero pepper one time and it did that. Literally made my eyes, nose, AND ears burn! It was brutal.
I've never done it and I wouldn't do it. I've heard too many things about food poisoning from doing it. And I avoid tuna because, first, their stocks are plummeting to disastrously low levels from over-fishing, and second, they're at the top of the food chain and are sadly contaminated with mercury.
in moderation its good. too much is bad. fish has very good health benefits to the human body. and its nice that its one of the meats you can eat raw straight from the catch.
What kinds of benefits?
there are many health fats in fish such as Omega so that's good for you. it is a very good choice of protein, very high in protein. No "extremely bad" fat content. and It is considered a functional food I believe which basically means it has more benefits to offer the human body than just good protein and Omega. an example for functional food could be like, it can help decrease cancer and increase your lifespan, etc. the bad benefits of eating too much of it are obviously mercury poisoning.
Ah-ha! I see that you're only supposed to eat roughly 2.2 lbs of fish per week because of the mercury, at least according to this specific article I've just read. In other words, 6 cans worth of tuna.
Depends heavily on the type of fish. The delicious high on the food chain fish have more mercury -_-

That sandwich could be very dangerous.
If the fish was prepared to be served raw, it would have had to be flash frozen at a very low temperature to kill any parasites.
Since it was supposed to be cooked, this most likely didn't happen.
It's fairly common to eat a tuna steak rare to medium rare. I'm pretty sure an established restaurant is going to take the necessary precautions in order to ensure it can be served any way a customer wants, especially if they're going to ask how they want it cooked.
It basically was, the cook pretty much just seared the outside edge of the tuna and the whole inside was left red.
it's ok i guess but i've kinda been avoiding it since i got food poisoning from salmon sashimi awhile back (it was the only thing i ate that day so i know it was the culprit)
I love sushi!
Not all tuna is sushi grade. An under cooked tuna steak is likely more risky.
With all uncooked meat and fish you run the risk of bacteria and parasites that otherwise would be killed via cooking.
The restaurant claims they only serve a very high grade of tuna, so it's supposed to be healthy and safe to eat. But sushi is one of my all time favorites!
it better be sushi grade ! I don't want to get food poisoning and die
I like it. Must be absolutely fresh though. I enjoy eating the fattier kinds of fish raw, like salmon or otoro.
No way is raw fish going into my body. I wanna stay healthy.
But it is healthy as long as it's of a high grade. lol
I LOVE raw fish sushi, myself. I eat it like a fiend and haven't died yet lol so more for me :)
I like your style! Haha.
It's gross. I'll laugh at anyone who got worms from it. Yayy
My thoughts?
BARF!
I'm not into cooked seafood either, so I'm definitely not rockin' the raw stuff, eeek.
Lol, that's perfectly understandable. :)
I know it's supposed to be really good for me, but I just can't do it. I've tried and tried, it just wasn't meant to be :-P
It's certainly not for everyone. I even think it's kinda weird but I still think it's good. I guess I just figure that people wouldn't serve it if it was gonna hurt me lol.
Only sushi, otherwise I dont want salmonella or anything to poison me.
It is not good especially if the fish is still alive. That is murder and even torture to eat beings that are still alive.
Well before I make sushi (more like I TRY to make one) I try the raw fish.
I sometimes eat it just after we catch it. but I prefer it cooked👌
I don't like it all.
PROS: high protein, low fat
CONS: risk of parasite infections
I could only eat cooked fish.
Cooked and non-cooked, both are good! :)
how does your stomach take it
Just like anything else! lol
Hehe :D
No raw meat of any kind for me.
I Love It!
I'll abstain.
