Do you really think 5 pounds makes a difference?

I'm always hearing how 5 pounds is what is holding someone back from feeling good. I honestly don't notice. I think it doesn't seem visible to have an "extra few pounds" I feel as though 10+ pounds is something more substantial. This site talks a lot about weight and athletics and I was wondering why so many thin people still feel such a need to lose more. Once you lose your goal why keep going? What is your favorite body type?
