Find a routine and products that work and cater to your skin type. Washing you face day and night is a start with a cleanser. Make sure to moisturize after. Use makeup that doesn't clog pores. Assess and treat new pimples. Never pop. That leaves scars.
Consistency is key. Changing products disrupts the skins natural balance.
However, you will get the occasional pimples. They are inevitable. It's just depends on how you treat them.
If you have long hair or even bangs make sure you braid your hair back or pull it back from your face before going to bed. Your hair has a lot of natural oils in them which will make your pores clog. Also, find an over the counter acne face wash and wash your face before bed at night and in the morning when you wake up.
Try not wearing makeup on the weekends until it clears up more. Letting your skin have a resting period is important.

I'm trying something now that seems to be working: use apple cider vinigar to make your own toner. All you do is use 1/3 of the apple cider vinigar and mix with 2/3 of water and put in a plastic bottle. Then use a cotton swab and clean your face with it every night.
go in the shower and heat up the water so there's some steam, Or just turn on the sink until its steamy. Put your face near the hot water and steam. Heat opens pores. Them wash your face with soap (obviously). After rinsing turn the water to cold and rinse your face. Or just run an ice cube over your face. That will close your pores, keeping the crap out. Its not 100% perfect but it it helps and works for me.
I've been on the proactiv system for many years now. It works well for me but it's important you find what works on your skin. Find a good cleanser and moisturizer. Then be consistent and use makeup products that won't clog your pores.
Always wash your face morning and night.
Don't sleep with makeup on
Don't cover it with make up all the time, thats just going to make it worse
Don't touch your face
Find a good moisturizer, and stick with it.I don't really get acne personally but my friend washes his face with a loofa and it works really well because it's rough and can really get into pores
