What to say to a guy with depression? Help me please lol?

So this guy I like (that's besides the fact though) family member passed away rather tragically. he's been quite quiet wich is totally understandable, texted me today that he's sorry he's been very distant and that he's just been in a bad place. What do I reply back? It may seem like a super simple question. But for some reason , I get anxious with stuff like this cause I feel the over need to help them and I Feel I just say the wrong thing and I don't want to make things worse. Please help.

I would try to confront him. Let him know you're always there for him. I'm going through something very similar but he won't open up to me. I think its mainly because he doesn't know how to explain how he feels. He doesn't talk to me for a few days & tbh it breaks my heart. Just try not to talk about his depression & instead remind him of all the great things about himself and the reason you like him.
