You actually don't sleep that well if you're drunk. You're asleep, but it's not a deep restful sleep.
Pills or a glass of milk or a warm shower or having exercised during the day are better ideas, as is making sure you chill out and read a book or something (no games, no internet, no phone/tablet) an hour before bed.

dont do it. i got in to a very bad habit doing that, you end up dependent on the alcohol to sleep. I had other issues which didn't help, but i still advise against it.
My mom used to drink Bailey's (irish cream) before going to sleep. It helped her a lot.
