Why was I prescribed birth control pills?

I'm 33. I'm not having sex.
Somewhere along the lines I contracted herpes. I don't know how or from whom.
I question that diagnosis. About a month ago I had ovarian cyst. It went away. Doctor wants to put me on minastrin low dose. I'm concerned because I want to get married someday an have kids. I fear this will hurt my fertility. Once I asked if it will doctor hesitated but said it won't.
During the Pap smear he put his finger in me feeling for my uterus. He said it isn't swollen. Why did he do this? He wants me to come back in November to see how the pill is. I'm all sorts confused. Is this normal. I believe they're lying about the herpes type 1

Type one is oral herpes. It's extremely common (like 90% of the population has it) I think it can spread to get it's but it's not as bad as type two (genital herpes)

Being on birth control will help keep cysts from forming. It basically turns your ovaries off and you get the hormones from the pills instead of the ovaries. So the pills are to keep your ovarian cysts in check, not to help with the herpes.
Fertility will return after you stop taking the pills
