Take it slow and easy get some cardio in. I've never loved push-ups. I think I can probably do twenty in a row but in flow type yoga I can do and hold chaturanga many times and I can also hold crow, side crow and other inverted poses.
They require core strength but also some arm strength. They tone muscles as you want them to look on a female.
Even though I go to an elite gym I have found that the classes taught by men and geared towards men don't seem to understand the female structure. Circuit training classes are fine but strength training classes shared and taught by men just don't usually do the female form well. It mainly comes down to hips if your form is off the male instructors in these ironman type classes don't know how to correct it. The term tuck your hips has never crossed their lips. I've watched them struggle with newer members and had to give the girls direction on my own. The instructor gets mad sometimes but I tell him she didn't understand what he was saying because men don't have that same problem.
I tell them either to tuck their hips or raise their hips.

6 pushups with good form is great!
I can do about 20 reps for 5 sets. After I do 20 my form starts to go so I'd say 25 is my max and then 30 my form gets bad.
Pushups are more difficult for women because we have boobs on our chest which is a lot of fatty tissue. Building up the muscle is definitely possible, but it takes a lot more time and we lose the muscle faster than males.
I'm similar dimensions to you. I workout a lot and can do 75 to 100 without stopping. But, it took me a long time to build up to that.
Start in sets and when you start to get comfortable increase your number.
And you should be proud of every push up you can do! Keep up the hard work!
Well if you've not done them before. 6 isn't bad. You need to do them in sets. So do your six, then wait and try do some more. And again wait and do more. You'll ache the next day but have a day off every so often to let your muscles repair.
I generally do them in 3 sets per session. You'll find after a few weeks you can do more and more.

I have worker myself to 30 but my upper body is not heavy. My boyfriend upper body is heavy with muscle and does bench press and rarely does push ups. His push up total is only 5 better then mine but I know he is twice as strong in those muscles. At the same time my fit girlfriend can do 45 pushups but another friend can do a single push ups. Depends on your body weight, upper body size, length of your body. strength endurance and how much time you have put into building them to higher numbers.
I can literally do ZERO pushups... ha! I used to be so much stronger when I was younger, now I'm a total weakling. Working at a desk for five years and living in civilisation has taken it's toll on me :(

as soon as you get your weight down you'll be able to do more. right now don't even focus on that you'll only hurt yourself focus on what foods you eat and how much of it you eat. once you drop at least 15 to 20lbs then start focusing on the pushups. for now do light cardio walking and do light weight lifting and a few jumping jacks
