Does a woman's height also contribute to her child's future height?

For instance if the mother is 5'11 like me. Is it still mainly the father that has the stronger genes for future heights in children? I've seen couples in which the girl was like a foot shorter (for instance 5'3) than the guy and the children were still on the taller side.

If I were to get in a relationship or married a man like my father's height, 6'4 (not saying I would but this is just an example I'm giving out). Most of my family members (females too) are also on the taller side.

If we had a son how tall would he be? If it's a daughter, what would be her height?

Why do you assume both parents heights dont contribute? even if one parent is short it doesn't mean the have short genes. so if your mom was 5 feet but your grandpa arrests are tall, and your siblings are tall, she could still contribute tall height. also final height is not indicative of genes alone. also nutrition sleep exercise weight stress overall environment, short people could have had a tall potential.

\either way both parents and their parents, are responsible for colds height. not 'the dad'.

if you're short you marry a tall guy your kids can still be tall or short. your sons cold be short your daughters could be tall. no way of knowing. no guarantee. you could marry a short guy who was supposed to be 7 feet tall but had a hormone imbalance or didn't get enough protein and end up with tall kids fall in between your height and his.

kids are usually between or plus or minus 3 inches of the mom and dads height. respectively.

It depends on both parents. As a rule of thumb they say to take the average height of both parents and addd 7cm for a boy and subtract 7cm for a girl

The children of tall parents tend to have an adult height that is closer to normal than their parents. This is a phenomenon in statistics known as regression towards the mean and it has specifically been observed with respect to the dimension of eventual adult height of offspring of tall parents.

All I can do is tell you about my family. My dad was just over 6' tall. My mum is 5' 1". I am also just over 6' tall, but my sister is also 5' 1". My dad's father is 6', his mum about 5' 5". Mum's parents are 5' 10" ish and 5' 4" ish.

Interesting and it makes sense. A mother's height contributes a lot in a girl's height. If she's short, the girl will be short as well mainly.
Base on this, I'm assuming if I had a daughter, it's likely she'll be on the tall side.

I'm assuming base on how I came out at 5'11. My mother is 5'8 and father 6'4. I have a younger brother who is right now 15 and at 5'10 at this moment.

There is a statistical rule that says that the average height of the next generation is about 8 cm taller than the average of men and female parents. But of course there is a large spread on actual values.

Yes that can happen but then there also those that come out shorter than the parents too.

Probably would be tall. Although, my parents are 5'9" and 5'2" whereas I'm the shortest kid at 5'5" my sisters are 5'7 and 5'8 and brother is 6'1". Sometimes dormant tall genes get thrown into the mix.

Yes, I agree. Height genes can be at times unpredictable. Though since most of my family members are tall, I'm assuming that it's more likely my future child will be tall.

Not sure about it. My mom is 5'3 and I turned out to be 6'2. My Dad is 5'11

Yeah, I've noticed this happening a lot in guys even when the mother is on the short side. I have tall parents though (mother is 5'8 and father 6'4).

I guess I'll never know but I'm assuming since most of my family members are tall, my future child will be heading towards the tall side, even if it's a girl.
