Yeah it helps. You burn calories while lifting, and more muscle burns more calories. It also raises testosterone levels which helps to build muscle and burn fat - long distance cardio, while good at burning calories, actually decreases testosterone levels since it elevates cortisol and the two don't mix. If I was you, I'd find a good lifting routine like the 5x5 stronglifts routine (google it) and I'd do shorter, more intense cardio. My girlfriend used to spend hours in the gym before she met me doing endless cardio, she didn't believe me at first that lifting was any good but when she went back to the gym and all she did was lift the way I told her to (without even doing any cardio) she lost weight quick and was really surprised.
Important also obviously is your diet. Make sure you're eating good food, training is only 50% of it.

Yes it does, definitely. But diet plays a huge part, if you're eating heavy in order to gain muscle, you'll also gain weight. I've opted to go for a more balanced approach which you might want to as well. I don't gain muscle as fast as I would if I went all out, but I also don't gain fat.. I think that's the best approach. I'm not really into the whole bulking and cutting thing.
lifting is not a fat burning process except the repeatedly lifting of small weights in high intensity training.

Do 6 jump squats and tell me how much you hate me. The ultimate fat burner. Try without Weight and learn the mechanics of it, then start putting some Weight. It will firm your body and slim it down. Once Terry Crews did the workout on bodybuilding channel (even on youtube).
Kepp up the good work and good luckNo I gain weight when I lift regularly and lose weight if I don't lol
Lifting "heavy" enough does burn fat. But don't go overboard
The best thing to do is a mix of more reps/less weight and less reps/more weight. You will gain muscle and become more toned.
You don't bulk up from cardio.
