I completely agree and am relived to see some wisdom about it all. I think its really black and white how someone fits a spectrum. A lot of these medications are very harmful and there's not a whole lot of regulation if the parents aren't making wise choices because the child can't really speak for themselves, the more they try to insist against it, it gets worse... We hear so many bad stories solely about issues with medication.
So yeah I think its BS that good ol therapy and comfort and trauma treatment in general with no weird gadgets and medication can work wonders based on the professionalism of the therapy. A lot of ted talks, and channeling in general do wonders, we never talk about the environment hurting the individual, we immediately go right to chemical misfortune.
I see so many get started in hard drugs when they've been addicted to prescriptions for years and every time they talk about the side effects, its all on deaf years.
I've got a good head on my shoulders that I know better that my parents' generation views a lot of deviation as problematic when its really not. If you're in a gang and lost on the streets, I don't know but if you don't look at the environment, its really bad to just start medicating the hell out of a 14 yr old who doesn't know how to seek out help if the family may be wealthy or avoiding exposure of abuse. Imagine that kid is an outcast; an outcast or bad childhood doesn't need to be black and white either.. plenty of people come from a shitty past and they grow up to be great people with zero mental health because they triumphed it rather then just went and got shrinked.
As cliche as pop psychology can be, there's so much self improvement techniques out there, I really don't see the point in hurting your kids health possibly, self esteem and view of themselves, especially with stigma before really figuring it all out. Also the psychology professionals are educated to recognize abuse without bruising and parents who deny, but many psychologists are subjective and biased, many come from strict religious and conservative backgrounds... the same backgrounds that may have said gays needed mental health at one point.

Everyone is different so everyone needs a different approach. I'm glad reading works for you but for a lot of people it would not and does not.
Sometimes it depends on your upbringing and environment. The environment in which you grow up determines your approaches to different things. Your family/friends/ the mass media in your country might teach you to read holy/religious books to get comfort in times of distress. But at the same time, other people in different places rmight be taught different approaches to getting comfort (e. g. by the people around them/ the mass media/). Personally, I get comfort and peace of mind from both religious books and the people around me (not necessarily psychologist) but still I'm different people in different places or with different ideologies will choose different approaches. i hope you'll find this useful. :)
I heard about some new age thing about adult coloring books are supposed to be good for mental health, not sure what it's supposed to relieve, but holy shit if you think adult coloring books are good for your mental health you need some real professional help.

I'd give credit to mental care professionals over religious writings, personally, having been to a few myself. I personally don't find comfort in things I don't believe in.
Not everyone can seek help for their mental health from a book... So I cannot say I agree with you on your point.
