Well, awsomechick did a great job with her answer.
I can think of only a few tips
First and foremost...cut yourself some slack. You are doing something about it.
Second, do a morning and evening scale...record them in order. Don't focus on the numbers. they mean nothing right now.
Make sure you do a steady routine all month...same number of thrusts, jacks ect.
This is just like bailing water out of a boat...once you are keeping the level steady, speeding up a bit and you start emptying it.
At the end of the month, if you are dropping, don't change anything. If you lose it slow you are less likely to gain it back, and you will develop a habit for excersise.
If you are not dropping, don't overdo it. add 10 jacks and 5 thrusts.
This works...I lost 75lbs and never gained it back...and I don't always eat the way I should...shhhhhhh don't tell my girl...she won't bake me cookies anymore *grins*
I wish you the best luck. Stick with it.

The key is eating less/healthier. The idea that you can eat whatever you want as long as you do a little exercise is a fallacy. I know, it sucks.
you can't lose fat from just one area, it has to be an all over thing. Cutting calories is essential since to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you are taking in. So along with that you should do some type of cardio and strength training such as jumping jacks for the cardio and crunches or squats for the strength. Maybe if you had stairs those would be good, or jog in place at a fast pace for short cardio bursts. There are lots of ways for strength training in a house though. You should look up a few things on the internet if you are serious about, I'm sure it would be easy to find.
Good Luck with it =)
Best way to loose weight is to diet and do some exercise.. which if as you say your are at home most days can be done at home, try sit ups, or jumping rope, get a fitness dvd and do it everyday. Modify your diet, reduce your calorie intake by about 500 calories, and notice the pounds drop off. The best excerises for at home workouts would be jumping rope, get an exercise ball and do sit ups and push ups, and run up and down your stairs. Good luck with it!
