No diets work because eventually you will go off it and go back to eating how you used to.
You need to enact a lifestyle change. This means eating healthier overall and exercising so you are fit, feel happy and look healthy. That's the only way to lose the weight and keep it off. In order to do this you need to have a positive attitude. Be motivated and stay motivated.
Some personal eating tips I have are to drink ONLY water. No soda, no juice, no alcohol. Water has no calories and your body runs on it. Also, eat plenty of boiled, lean chicken and do not add salt to anything. Salt will make you gain weight. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, brown rice. Get your protein from cheeses, nuts, plain yogurt. Avoid eating any fast food or out at restaurants. If you're having a salad always go for a clear dressing (Italian or vinegar and oil) because there is less calories. Avoid snacking throughout the day (unless it's an apple or plain granola and yogurt - something filling and low calorie) and no eating before bed. Try to eat 5-6 smaller, protein filled meals a day to keep your metabolism up and your stomach from getting hungry.
As for exercising, you need to run. Running is the fastest and easiest way to tone your body and lose weight.
I realize I just typed out this novel before reading you broke your foot. There's really nothing you can do besides lift some little weights for your arms and do crunches on the floor, if that.
After your foot is healed you should really work on getting fit. Being overweight isn't healthy and you seem like you're ready to do something about it.

Eating healthy and exercising is the KEY to losing weight. You should see results in no time if you keep at it and are consistent with it. Don’t give up! I believe in you. :) Since you have a broken foot right now, in the meanwhile, excercising is not a good idea. Once your foot heals though, you want to exercise. In the meanwhile, just watch what you eat. Avoid lots of sugar, starch, and fatty foods.. like French fries and stuff… and be sure the portions are not too big and not too small either. Eat 4 small meals a day… NOT three big meals a day.. because that will ruin you metabolism.. hope I helped girl. Good luck! :)
Hey I am in the same spot I went from 120-188 in less then a year my advice is as follows
1st - we are not 15 anymore there for our metabolisms are not the same.
2nd - Diets only work if you stick to them 100% not 99% not 98% you need to stick to them 100%
3rd - I just started P90x 2 weeks ago following the diet and work out as planned 100% I have lost 30 lbs in 2 weeks the secret to dieting is you eat 10 Calories per pound you weigh if you weigh 180lbs you do not eat anymore then 1800 Calories a day.
Most diets are short term P90X teaches you how to work out and Diet for 90 days straight after doing it for this long it becomes custom to your daily routine and you keep it up. At 5'4-5'5 weighing 180 lbs is not that much but being the same height I know where you are coming from I run Marathons but was not pleased with looking at the scale when it said 188.
Try jump rope, it burns a lot more calories than running, and it does not hurt the knee as much
what I have found that is really useful is interval training which has helped me a lot and eat ing fiber too, like strawberries, berries ect
just be very carful with the diet suff

A broken foot... I think maybe a stationary bike might help.. Do that everyday, don't drink beer or pop. Work out 30 minutes a day, five times a week. If you can't find time, ask yourself, what's more important then your health?
Try P90X. It's amazing its a 90 program that will change your life. (:
