Kirstie Alley's weight loss on Dancing With The Stars inspiring me?

Question

I want to try a new way to lose weight, and now I'm thinking dance classes should be added to my routine of diet and exercise? Right now I'm walking daily, cutting carbs and fat, not drinking any soda (only water), and taking the stairs at work every day.

Any dancers out there than can testify that this might be a great way to lose a few more inches?

I cannot testify that it will definitely make you loose weight because it depends on how much you weigh right now and how much you are realistically looking to loose, plus everyones body looses and gains fat at different rates.

My suggestion: Dance classes are great fun and would help you towards loosing weight to a certain extent. You would need to do at least 2/3 classes a week that last around an hour. Most classes will include a warm up, which are taken from a combination of pilates, yoga, and other fitness techniques. The warm up will help impove your flexibility, core body strength, balance, visual awareness and will also help you tone. You will need to attend regularly as this will help build your stamina. There are many fitness clubs and dance studios that offer a range of classes so do not sign up to a membership with any particular one until you have tried some classes and feel comfortable with you teacher/choreographer and the way the class operates. Start with a beginners class and just advise don't compare your ability with others when you begin as everyone will be at a different stage of learning. You could do various classes to balance it out or you might find that a particular style of dance suits you better. I would suggest jazz, hip hop/street dance, ballet and salsa. Most good dance studios and choreographers will also let you observe a class so make enquires with the studio or teacher directly.

Keep up what your doing at the moment, however once you start dancing you might cut out a couple if days of walking. As for your diet sounds like a good nutrional diet just remember not to exceed certain portion sizes too. Be strict about your fitness but allow yourself to have a treat wert now and then too.

Dancing is definitely an excellent way to lose weight. You burn so many calories. I'm not a dancer but look at all the stars that have been on that show that have lost weight, most do. The routines are hard. I have done belly dancing classes and I find them fun and they actually work your core pretty well and you do break out in a nice sweat. Its a fun way to lose weight without having to do boring laps on a treadmill or something, so I think its probably something that would be easy to stick to!

the key to losing weight is diet and excersize...and by this I mean, you can't just do this every 2-3 days...you need to do this at least 4-5x/week as far as excersize...

dancing is a good idea...it involved building muscle and activities to burn fat...just because you're builiding muscle doesn't mean you're going to be huge, but building muscle (even fi your only using 2lb weights) is good...you want to use low weights and high reps...that will not only help you lose weight, but also tone you up...just go check biggest loser - a lot of people are like they are using weight? it hought they want to lose the pounds...well yeah, but you need to WORK hard at losing it...dancing involves using the core, legs, arms, basically everything, so to answer your question is def is a good way to lose weight, you just have to keep doing it AND eat properly...

cutting carbs and fat is a good way to start, my suggestion is to go see a personal trainer or a nutritionist to see what to eat and then sign up for a class, even in the class they can probably give you a diet to follow

Dancing works your legs, the biggest part of your body. You will lose weight easily. Diet is also key. Don't give up everything, and be a paranoid calorie counter. Just portion your meals.

Jazz or ballet works your legs from always being on your toes and doing jumps. Also gives the best flexibility. They also strengthen your ankles which could make your walking easier so you can go longer. Hip hop is fun if you would rather do that style and zumba just rocks :) make sure to warm up and cool down a lot so you don't hurt yourself. One thing I do outside of class is pilates to keep my abs strong and looking nice. Yoga also gives good endurance and strength but I don't do it very often. Also see a nutritionist to make the most of your diet and the exercise will help you lose even more weight that way. Hope this helps!

Yes dancing is a great way to lose weight - it's cardio but it tones you as well.

But keep in mind, people like those kind of shows do extensive work; practice everyday - so they're getting a lot more exercise than something like one class a week.

But it's not going to do any harm at all.

She was on there? O.O I haven't seen Dancing With the Stars in awhile. But dancing definitely is a great form of exercise. I've noticed quite a few people lost weight fairly fast through dancing. A couple of my friends take dance classes, and I saw a difference from before they started dancing, and after.

zumba/latin dancing is awesome and so is hip hop. start slow, change speeds throughout, keep yourself entertained with a good mix to change up the pace. keeps you motivated because you're not just working out, you're learning how to dance :)

you should definitely do it. I think some different styles of dance work out different parts of your body (but then again I could be wrong.) zumba is great if you want to work on your tummy. hip hop is really fun and works out just about all of you.
