Getting toned without getting getting ripped

I've decided to try and get in shape again, although this time I want results.

In previous attempts I spend about 4 - 6 months in a daily routine of cardio with a mix of light weight training every few days, and water low sugar diet. I lost weight but I never saw the results I wanted so I eventually stopped.

I'm not above using diet pills, but they're expensive and I want to make sure I get the right supplements for what I want to achieve. I think this will definitely help the process.

What I'm looking to achieve is to 1 - slim down, 2 - defined muscle tone but not bulk up 3 - get a stronger core, and more importantly a well defined chest.

Basic plan for routine work out it is to walk a mile everyday for cardio. every other day do a more intense work out involving weight training, basic exercises (pushups, setups, ect.) and some slight yoga for muscle stretching.

I'm mainly concerned in the supplements (protein packs and such). What would be recommend that is affordable and will go best with my wanted results and routine workout?
