Would braces be able to fix my lower jaw?

I'm a 14 year old girl, almost 15 and I have a really bad overbite. My lower jaw is too far back and it's my biggest insecurity. I've hated it since I was 6, and I was wondering whether my overbite/my lower jaw could be normal like this with braces:

Is my case so bad that only surgery can make my lower jaw normal? And now this is my jaw and teeth:

I'm not fat but the pictures make me look like that because of my jaw, and no I am not a mouth breather. By the way I can't breathe while mewing because my airway closes.

I had my lower jaw surgery to move it forward and braces, twice in my life. that fixed it up fine. I also have partially numb face, but it's not that bad. I like the result.

you are not done growing yet, I'd look into other options first and give it time for your face to grow. I'd look into meditation and emotional healing and stress relief. I'm serious... and that can't hurt. Because I saw heard how such issues can be associated to emotional trauma... e. g."being put down", emotional oppression. Emotional things relate into the body.

Wow that sucks. I really want to fix my lower jaw but my parents are against surgery. They are all about accepting how God made you. My dad doesn't like that I want to get braces either, he's against it. I really hate myself though not only because I have an overbite and an abnormally small pushed back jaw but also that my SIX siblings all have good looking jaws and straight teeth. I am the only one who doesn't.

How was it after you got surgery? Did you have any side effects or pain? How is you jaw now?

I was same, noone else had the recessed jaw but me.
I'm fine post surgery. this was 30yrs back, they wired my jaw shut and I was on liquid diet... milkshakes with vitamins for several weeks, then slowly got strength back. It really wasn't that bad honestly, not a big deal. I have some numbness on my face but it's not bad... it's a risk when stretching the jaw as there is a nerve in there. You'd be fine.

I recall reading about this but not sure where at the moment. I'll see if I can find it... where how emotional stuff issues can impact physical development. It makes sense to me... if you are "imploding" in fear or shame into yourself, then the body may respond in kind. You are young, you may not realize how important emotion is. In freedom... that is if you are emotionally out of fear, responding in love, you are growing out. Whether its too late for that not sure, but you are still growing as far as I know... like your feet and such, so I'd study up. Meditation is what I'd do regardless, guided imagery meditation... if you can relate to "stress" at all, being picked on, put down, etc.. Heals the mind, you can focus on your jaw growing out, work it.. stretch it... Lookup how Michael Jordan (BB ball player grew... he hung from a pole to stretch himself).
It's a long shot, but worth a try in my book.

Braces are expensive, I had them twice, they were worse because of the time and constant tightening and such.
Maybe what you'll have to do is get through school, get a job and pay for it all your self. it's likely insurance won't pay.

ps. I didn't like myself either, I had terrible overbite and buck teeth and glasses, I was really goofy looking and paid the price in being picked on. It was really awful. Girls may be able to get away with it a little more since it's a "feminine" trait, so I'd be patient with your body.

It is really important to understand that the mental illness you are developing about this will always be far worse than the thing itself and no one else cares about this more than the tiniest fraction that you do.

The best thing for you to do is to simply forget about this and never think about it ever again.

Oh yeah I also had an overbite but I actually sorta loved my bunny teeth. However I got braces because my lower set of teeth aren't properly aligned. Overbite isn't that big as an issue, however my braces fixed most of it. I kind of miss it. And for your kind information you are already cute and if you wanna deal with overbite then braces are cheaper and better solution compared to surgery. It actually works.

No it won't do that but it will push your upper set of teeth back and it will look even, as if there was no overbite. Braces can only bend or mold your teeth set, if you want to do something regarding your jaws then you should go for surgery which I don't recommend at all because you can just fix an overbite with the simple way of wearing braces.

Yes get braces it should straighten the teeth too I had some when I was your age there are some that work for overbite, you shouldn’t need surgery.

I had braces for years... went right back to having a gap and what I call T-rex teeth. Get past school age and you won't give a fuck about how your teeth look beyond brushing them because it costs too much money to fix cavities. ... or just to deal with the pain.

I've seen plenty of pretty women pull men with ease despite having some fucked up looking teeth. In Japan fucked up looking teeth is considered cute... I'm old, I've watched trends go from girls need to have a six pack to obsessions with giant tits and I think it's on big asses now. If you're physically healthy you don't need to worry about any of that shit. Modona and Arnald Schwarzenegger both have teeth just like mine and the last I heard it's become a fashion trend across the pond in places... Trust me... just be healthy and you'll be pretty.

i am also 14 and going to turn 15 in about 3 months and also have have really bad overbite and have done lots of research about braces so it should fix your overbite from everything I've read and i know how you feel it sucks how we can't smile with our teeth lined up so i doesn't look really good like some people but i'm getting braces soon so can look better

Yes I understand exactly. My smile is so ugly simply because of my teeth and jaw, and I always try to cover my smile and not smile with my teeth.

yes the braces should fix your lower jaw that's what i meant when straighten your teeth by pulling the bottom jaw forward and the teeth would be straight up and down but they will also just make the teeth themselves straight and more appealing

thanks and I just want to tell you in my opinion your jaw looks fine and from what i saw from the bottom half of your face you look like you could be pretty. you don't need perfect teeth or an amazing jawline for people to find you attractive don't get me wrong it doesn't hurt to have perfect teeth and an amazing jawline but you are already very pretty so don't worry about it too much.

Well, I am not a Orthodontist but in my view scientifically it is much harder to bring your lower jaw forward and mostly that is not something that an orthodontist will consider doing so.

The reason being your upper jaw is more flexible for braces treatment as it can be brought forward or taken back also. It is much easier to work on your upper jaw as compared to your lower jaw. Of course the dentist will also see how space is available in your lower jaw if that needs to be taken back.

However, either way after the treatment you will look great. Be assured

No, I did not have a tiny jaw. Mine was contradictory, my upper jaw was in front and I was unable to close my lips because my upper front teeth were out. Like you I also had gaps in my teeth.

My lower jaw was in the right place and was fine.

However, today my face profile looks great. I am extremely happy with the outcome.

If you ask me, I would say that is a bad option really and plus it would be far more costlier as compared to Braces treatment and surgery is not an option for everyone either.

Please note, that even if you go for a surgery the results may not turn out the way you expected and you could end up being unhappy. If in case you are unhappy, I don't think any further corrections would be possible.

Hence don't consider surgery.

As I said above. Braces is the best option in my view. Don't give up on that. From my personal experience I can assure you that the results will be great once the treatment is over.

First I think you should visit a good, reputed dentist/clinic that gives braces treatment. Even if it a bit costly but you should have a consultation first and maybe that will give you the confidence then.

an orthodontist would have to check you out to give you a clear cut answer, but in the end if what you mean is your jaw looks pushed back? or is what they call recessed/weak chin that would require surgery but if it not causing you hard or problems they wouldn't do it. all braces can do is correct your teeth and realign a jaw problem caused by crooked teeth

Yes but it's hard when you have SIX siblings and they are all younger than you and look like supermodels but you don't. I have a really gorgeous sister with big blue eyes, long straight silky hair, curly thick eyelashes, very strong and good jaw, straight teeth, big plump pink lips, thick eyebrows, friendly eyes, small upturned nose and a perfect body and side profile. She has guys staring at her all the time and guys have a crush on her. I'm invisible to men, they won't even look at me once. And no guy has ever liked me.
It really makes me hate myself even more when I see the looks on guy's faces when they see her but completely ignore me.
And today I did get noticed, I was walking and talking to myself, then two guys on a motorcycle stopped and told me to "shut the fuck up".

its not sympathy its seeing someone who went through what i did. i was 300 pounds from 13-17 gained all this weight no one knew why, heard everything you can imagine thrown at me, bullied, you name it i got it thrown my way, finally about i had heart surgery then they finally found a lump so i had surgery to remove it. started thyroid meds and the weight came off. i stuck to my hobbies because even alone i was happier doing those then dealing with most people. if you hear anything im saying trust this will work out for you. im proof of that in a different way. and yep im still into video games at 34, and escape is a great thing just dont forget you are uniquely you, there is only one you and you matter.
