I mean I’m not insulting or bashing thin/slender people but I’m almost EVERY workout videos there’s ALWAYS thin and slender people and never much plus size people at all! That angers me because I’m a plus size girl and and I’m so thrilled to see that here’s more people in different sizes and weight in more workouts videos. It’s weird for me to say that because I used to be thin before I hit puberty. I looked fine when I gained some weight but I let myself go to 252lbs junior year of high school. Now I’m 212lbs. Seeing all these slim/fit people doesn’t really motivate me because I get discouraged but still work out. I’m so happy to see more people different sizes in workout videos. It’s about time.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yI get it from this commercial standpoint of skinny sells, sex sells, so those are the people they put in their videos, but I've found some great youtube fitness people who are proponents of using all body types in their videos. It is super motivating, as you allude to, to see that this isn't just say a dance workout that someone who works out 2x a day with abs of steel can do, but someone who is maybe more of your average person or someone working on their fitness journey. Also great is that not just size wise, some youtuber fitness people use older adults in their videos, something that is also not often utilized. Hello, exercise doesn't stop when you're 20 or 30, it should be a life long pursuit and videos should project that exercise is for everyone no matter your age/size.

+1 yIt's interesting - there's studies that show obese women respond with anger to images of women they perceive as thinner than them.
I'm not sick of it. But I also don't watch a lot of fitness content - what I do watch often features normal bodies. Slender relatively speaking, but not "thin". Just healthy.
Search for plus size workout creators, or trainers with a very inclusive style. Avoid the usual mass market shit.
But y'know - exercise and most importantly diet will make for smaller people. Professionals who basically work out as their job are bound to be smaller.
That's just logical.10 Reply
+1 yI like your question, and thanks so much for it, as an overweight person all my life I struggled with weight gain and weight loss. I used to weight 372 lbs and went down to 250 lbs now, so I got to work on my losing 50 lbs more and reach my goal yes it's battle but let's all do it and I wish you all my Blessings and yes I do like overweight or plus gals no problem for me all my ex-girlfriends were overweight. Furthermore, I agree, it hurts to see slim people doing weight loss videos.

Thank you so much for agreeing! Nobody thinks about us heavier people not doing it and I’m so glad they’re finally doing more workouts with thicker, heavier people. We need that.

+1 yi don't care if it's an amputee doing it as long as they are doing it clearly and correctly so i can see the right form. the problem with having super big people do it is you cannot SEE their form because you can't notice the angle of the joints due to the excessive mass. THAT is why they have fit people in there.

+1 yOverweight people promoting a specific exercise routine or product isn't going to convince the public that it works and will help them get in shape.
Just imagine if McDonald's used 300lb actors eating a plate of burgers, fries, soda, and a milk shake. Most people would decide they don't want the results their product.

+1 yNow, I understand that my opinion here may be irrelevant, but what if, just what if, there is a reason that plus-sized women aren't in these videos? And for this next bit, I will have to tread with caution, to me, it seems like you don't want to actually lose weight or better yourself, you want to see larger people in these videos.
10 ReplyWell, first off, you gaining weight isn’t their fault. That’s yours. Second, many people get motivated watching their workout videos. So not everyone shares the same opinion as you do. And third, remember some of those trainers were in bad shape too before becoming fit. So you getting mad at them wanting to help other people is really stupid.

Whoa whoa! I never said my weight gain was their fault! I was going through puberty if you would have read my post carefully. I’m just saying there should be people different sizes being in exercise videos to encourage others that hey can do it no matter what size! I’m not the one that’s being stupid! You older people always say younger people are stupid.
- +1 y
Except you kind of are stupid. Outside of you, how many people do you think would do those exercises if they had plus sized people?

Sasha0426 Did you ever see Richard Simmons workouts? He had plenty of plus sized individuals in his videos. Literally google image search Richard Simmons workout videos and you'll see the clips. Same thing with Jane Fonda. In a few of her videos, she featured the typical slim workout models next to those who were more plus sized as well as men, and those who were older.

He had plus size people working out! Have you not seen it? That’s a great thing. Duh

Yeah because let’s face it, nobody is THAT fit. Wanted to get healthier thats understandable but reality needs to think about how is unfit or average people feel when there’s always thin and fit people being praised. So sick of seeing thin people all the time.,
- +1 y
Thank you. I mean like I said there’s nothing wrong with being slender but it would just be nice for us average and unfit people to see people just like us. I do wanna be slim again.
+1 yDont u think they motivate u to work out? What is the point to see people work out but still have unfit bodies? I would be personally discourged. I work out to be like the people in the video. if i see a plus size guy working out i would be like whats the point. Its the same as having a person with sun damaged skin in a sun screen ad. I would never use that product

+1 yWell I have noticed that they put a couple of people in the videos and they of all body sizes nowadays. I think if all the people were overweight then people would question if the workout really worked. call it a mind play to convince your mind that you want to look like the person on the TV/video.

+1 yA fat person exercising would be showing that exercise doesn't do anything. Fit and trim prople exercising gives the impression that exercise will make you fit and trim, and that's what the marketing department wants you to believe... so you'll buy their product.
00 Reply I sometimes see some guy who's posting about his weight lossing journey, and I don't really have the if he can do it I can too feeling. I'm not fat uet already active, but kinda invested in his story "is he gonna make it?" I'd actually encourage you to do something similar, the fact that you feel this way yet there isn't enough content shows the supply demand gep, you could make it big.

+1 yIt's about advertising. The majority of people see the normal weight people in the video and it makes them think that the exercise program is successful. They see all these other people who became slim and fit and imagine that they will end up that way too if they buy the program.
Most personal improvement advertising works that way. They show people who have reached the goal that their customers want to reach to make them think the program is successful so they will buy it.

+1 yThat's because they show the best results which fat people aren't. It's in fact. If it's sickens you, then go be slim like them. They're suppose to be your inspiration.
Would you take a someone who sucks at martial arts teaching you martial arts seriously?00 Reply 611 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. There’s a really obvious answer here, and it’s that the action they are performing in the video reduces fat, soooo what do you want? That’s like saying “I wish there were more dry people in diving competitions”
20 ReplyI don't mind. Maybe it's because I'm not overweight. But, what Does bother me is the fact that they're smiling. I don't want to see their perfect smile. I want to see pain, blood, sweat and agony on their faces. HARD WORK!
