Does cheese help you lose weight?

I read in my dieting book that you should have dairy 2-3 times a day each time you have a meal, but they did not say why. While they said it helps you lose weight, they did not say why or how it leads to weight loss. But I know vegetarians who consume dairy, have IQs 14 to 24 points higher than vegans that avoid dairy.
