Why do people have no empathy for people with medical issues?

whenever i say I’m on benefits, people are so toxic and rude and call me lazy and a leech!!

I’m on benefits for depression
But i also have a bunch of medical issues

But people keep assuming and keep calling me a leech and lazy
Not even bothering listening to me!! LIKE YOU DONT FUCKING KNOW ME!!!

Like you don’t know my life so why tf are you treating me like this?

I'll sum it up for you in one phrase that I get all the time, "but you don't look sick." Yep, that's it. When, like me, you live with chronic illness that you can't see because it involves my internal organs and I am rarely out and about when I am sick...you know for the benefit of these people who desperately need to see me that way...they think you're a fake, a liar, or abusing the systems designed to help people like us. Literally my own family accused me of lying about my symptoms before I was officially diagnosed even though I've never lied about ever being sick in my life...yup, the family that's supposed to care about and be concerned about you. (They've since apologized profusely).

I don't share my story with a lot of people because I've learned so many people quite literally don't give AF. They fake smile in your face, or like to interrupt the story THEY asked you to tell with a story about their cousin that also once had "a thing." I only now tell a select few or venture to the web to groups where obviously everyone gets it and we can just talk about it or other things.

People care about their own lives. There are few with a true empathetic heart, and usually the ones that do, have family dealing with or they deal with medical issues. You can spend your life being angry about it, but it won't change much. I've been on this path for 12 years now, and nothing has changed in the way people treat me or how they care. Gotta find your niche of people that do, and just let the rest fall by the wayside.

When people say "Well, you don't look sick" I ask them if they've ever heard of invisible illnesses. Cause that is what I have.

I worked for 30 years when I became very ill and couldn't work. So no one ever said anything to me about collecting social security benefits.
You didn't design the system for disabled people. There is a system already bin place to help people with disabilities. So, you are just doing what was put in place for disabled people.

Because they are vile, hypocrites. They have the audacity to whine about sexism, racism, homophobia and transphobia then they are ablest. And it is usually the modern people that are the worst for this.

Because most people with issues keep going because they have to or they are too worried about stigmas to get help. Most people can't put themselves in other people's shoes so they lack empathy.

Why do you care what they think?


They only affect your life if you choose to care.


Fuck them, fuck their lack of empathy and fuck their assumptions.


They are insignificant and all you have to do is realize that to be free of the stress.
